New Polish president Nawrocki proposed lengthening the path to Polish citizenship by extending the permanent residency requirement from 3 to 10 years.
To get a PR permit a non EU citizen needs to have lived in Poland for 3 to 5 years. So in total it'll be 15 years minimum for foreigners to be eligible to apply for citizenship

Regarding the Polish guy tennis hat controversy, there is a a fake statement circulating. Here is his real statement
"Due to the situation that occurred during Kamil Majchrzak's match at the US Open, I would like to express my sincere apologies to the injured boy, his family, as well as all the fans and the player himself.
I made a grave mistake. In the excitement of the crowd celebrating my victory, I was convinced the tennis player was handing his cap to meโfor my sons, who had asked for autographs earlier. This mistaken belief made me instinctively extend my hand. Today I know I did something that looked like deliberately taking a souvenir from a child. It wasn't my intention, but it doesn't change the fact that I hurt the boy and disappointed the fans.
The hat was given to the boy, and an apology was sent to the family. I hope I have at least partially repaired the harm caused."
