Senator Rand Paul is planning on calling for a vote to hold Fauci in contempt of congress! If it passes, then it may be possible for the President of the Senate to directly refer it to the Justice Department.

---

Senator Rand Paul wants to ask his committee to vote to hold Dr. Fauci in contempt of Congress. If the committee approved the resolution, there are two potential paths for referring the matter to the Department of Justice.
The first, and by far the most common, is for the full Senate to adopt the contempt resolution before it is certified for prosecution.
The second is through the President of the Senate, a statutory referral mechanism that exists in law but has been used only rarely in modern practice. Because of its infrequent use, there is relatively little precedent for how such a referral would be handled. This is the path that Senator Paul wishes to use.

This is Dr. Robert W. Malone. Remember him and how he tried to warn everyone about the COVID vaccine and the dangers of mRNA vaccines?

In 2021, Dr. Robert W. Malone @RWMaloneMD ,the scientist widely credited with foundational work on mRNA technology ,publicly warned that the COVID mRNA shots were an experimental platform being rushed into billions of arms. He specifically raised alarms about potential long-term risks, including immune dysregulation, myocarditis, and other adverse effects that he said could become clearer within roughly 18 months of mass vaccination.
Instead of open scientific debate, Malone was swiftly labeled a โ€œmisinformation spreader.โ€ He was banned or restricted on major social media platforms, attacked in mainstream media, and largely sidelined by the medical establishment. His appearances (including on Joe Roganโ€™s podcast) were met with coordinated efforts to discredit him rather than engage his data-driven concerns.
Whether one agrees with every claim he made, the episode remains a striking case study: a scientist who helped invent the technology was punished for questioning its rapid, universal deployment. History will judge how accurate his 18-month warnings turned out to be.โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹ I think History has already judged. Itโ€™s the ones they donโ€™t want you to hear that you really need to listen to !

Israeli building code has required a reinforced safe room in every new home since 1992. It is called a mamad.

It was designed for rockets. Rockets give you fifteen seconds. So most of those doors have no lock on the inside.

On October 7 the handle was held by hand, or not at all. ๐Ÿงต

---

Jill and I stood in one of those doorways at Kibbutz Nir Oz this week.

The steel around the handle is riddled with bullet holes.

When pulling the door open failed, they fired through it at the handle. They were shooting at the hands.

---

When the door held, they burned the house.

Fire is what defeated the mamad. A room built for fifteen seconds becomes an oven when the building is alight. The air filter was designed for a chemical agent, not smoke.

More than 70% of Nir Oz burned. Six houses were left untouched.

---

Americans have a framework for this and have forgotten we own it.

For a century and a half the southern plains ran on a raiding and captive economy. Comanche raiders killed the men and took women and children. The selection was deliberate. Both sides knew it.

---

Spanish and Mexican authorities funded redemption through the rescate system.

A reliable buyer creates a standing bid. A standing bid raises the return on acquisition.

Every redemption was a mercy. The aggregate of those mercies was a price signal that manufactured more captives.

---

Jewish law worked this out seventeen centuries before Menger.

Redeeming captives is the highest charity in Maimonides. Mishnah Gittin 4:6 then caps it: not for more than their worth, mipnei tikkun ha'olam.

The sages knew what an unlimited bid does to supply.

---

The ceiling has not held.

1985: roughly 1,150 prisoners for three soldiers.
2011: 1,027 for Gilad Shalit.
Yahya Sinwar walked out in that exchange and planned October 7.

The market cleared. The price was published. The buyer came back.

---

Now the part that should trouble anyone who thinks a good procedure can substitute for judgment.

After the 1973 surprise, the Agranat Commission created a standing devil's advocate office inside Israeli military intelligence. Its job was to write the opposing assessment.

---

That office existed on October 6, 2023.

Intelligence held a Hamas planning document. It was judged aspirational. Young women watching the border reported rehearsals at mock compounds. They were told to stop filing.

The officers held a model instead, and they trusted the model.

---

Nir Oz sits under two miles from Gaza. No military outpost between it and the border.

400 to 500 attackers entered a community of 385 people.

The IDF's own investigation: the first security forces arrived 40 minutes after the last attacker had already walked back into Gaza.

---

The local ready squad fielded nine members. Four were killed.

Israeli law then allowed civilians handguns, not rifles. Squad rifles were kept in a communal armory rather than at home.

Israel had licensed those men and trained them. It had not given them the key.

---

"When seconds count, police are minutes away."

On October 7 the answer was closer to eight hours. In a country the size of New Jersey with universal conscription and one of the finest militaries on earth.

The gap between a raid and the state is geometry before it is competence.

---

One correction, because I heard it repeatedly and it is false.

Most Israelis do not carry. Roughly 4% are licensed, after three years of the most aggressive liberalization in Israeli history. What looks like an armed population to a visitor is mostly conscription.

---

And there is no right to carry. An applicant needs a qualifying address, a clean record, and a physician's declaration of fitness. The state grants permission and can refuse.

They have much of the practice we say we want. They never had the principle.

---

The man who saved 32 people near the Nova festival that morning was unarmed.

Yunis Alkarnawi, a Bedouin Israeli farmer, hid Jewish kids and 24 Thai workers under his house, then walked to his gate and told Hamas gunmen in Arabic there were no Jews on his farm.

---

Other Arab citizens of Israel tried talking to Hamas that day and were murdered anyway.

Hold Alkarnawi against the claim that Israel is a colonial project and its people are settlers.

The framework has no slot for him. It cannot process the sentence.

---

That is what the people who hate Jews require: that the Israeli stay an abstraction.

The abstraction collapses the moment he becomes a specific person doing a specific thing. And the specific thing is almost always some variant of holding a door.

---

Why do intelligent institutions keep making exactly the same mistake?
Israel.
Pearl Harbor.
9/11.
COVID.
Different countries. Different decades. Different people.
The same failure.
Here's what I think ties them together.

---

October 7 wasn't primarily a failure to collect intelligence.
The intelligence existed.
Young women watching the Gaza fence spent months reporting rehearsals, drone flights, and preparations.
Their reports moved up the chain.
Then they stopped.

---

That pattern is far older than Israel.
In 1941, the United States had warnings before Pearl Harbor.
In 1973, Israel watched Egyptian forces mass along the Suez Canal.
Before 9/11, the FBI had multiple field offices raising alarms.
Before COVID, aerosol scientists warned public health authorities.
The warnings existed.

---

The failure was rarely collecting information.
The failure was deciding what counted as information.
Once an institution settles on a model of reality, evidence that contradicts the model is remarkably easy to explain away.

---

in 1973, The Bar-Lev Line was considered one of the strongest defensive systems in the world.
Egyptian engineers defeated it with high-pressure water cannons.
The problem wasn't the wall.
The problem was the assumptions behind it.

---

One idea kept appearing as I researched this.
God lives in the details.
The junior analyst.
The radar operator.
The scientist.
The observer on the fence.
The people closest to events usually see the change first.

---

Economist Friedrich Hayek understood why.
The most important knowledge doesn't sit in headquarters.
It lives with the people on the ground.
The trouble begins when institutions try to compress that knowledge into summaries.
The details disappear first.

---

Every commission recommends another office.
Another committee.
Another reporting structure.
Those things matter.
But none of them can force a senior decision maker to hear something that contradicts the model he already believes.

---

The Bar-Lev Line was made of sand.
It fell to water in an afternoon.
Fifty years later, the Gaza barrier was built from concrete, steel, sensors, cameras, and remote weapons.
It failed for the same reason.

---

Every institution builds its own walls.
Most of them are made of assumptions.
I think this may be the most important essay I've written this year because it isn't really about Israel.
It's about how institutions fail.

They then went on to explain that they would suffer severe consequences professionally if they said so out loud.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is expected to vote this week on whether to hold Dr. Anthony Fauci in contempt. Based on members' statements during the July 29 hearing, the resolution appears likely to advance on a party-line 8-7 vote. Sen. John Fetterman, despite occasionally breaking with Democrats on other issues, gave no indication he would support the measure.
Rather than seeking a potentially contentious vote of the full Senate, Chairman Rand Paul's aide has indicated to me that he intends to ask Vice President J.D. Vance, in his constitutional role as President of the Senate, to certify the contempt referral directly to the Department of Justice if the committee approves it. That approach relies on a little-used provision of federal law and would ultimately leave any prosecution decision to the Justice Department.

I came back from Israel with a question I wasn't expecting.
Not about antisemitism.
Not about geopolitics.
A much harder one.
How is a nation supposed to live beside a neighbor that openly says it wants to destroy you?

---

Most of our moral instincts come from disputes between individuals.
One man. One neighbor. One crime. One victim.
Those rules work remarkably well.
They begin to fail when you scale them up to nations.

---

What happens when the threat never ends?
When "imminent danger" isn't one afternoon but eighty years?
When retreat means surrendering your country?
When there is no sheriff above sovereign states?

---

I found myself reading everyone from Reinhold Niebuhr to Michael Walzer.
Ancient Greece. Ancient Israel. Rome. The Cherokee. The Cold War. Game theory.
Not because history repeats itself.
Because the same moral problem keeps returning.

---

One lesson surprised me.
History is full of examples where overwhelming force won the battle.
It contains far fewer examples where overwhelming force solved the problem.
Yet, how many nations face a close neighbor that advocates for total elimination?
These distinctions matter.

---

Another surprised me even more.
Sometimes the response that feels most proportionate to the outrage becomes the very thing that strengthens your enemy.
Conversely, the strategies with the best long-term record often feel painfully inadequate while innocent people are still being buried.
That is the tension.

---

I also tried to steelman both sides.
The strongest argument against Israel.
The strongest argument for Israel.
Neither survives the caricature.
Both deserve to be understood before they are criticized.

---

I don't pretend to have solved this.
History doesn't hand us solutions.
It offers warnings.
And if there is one thing I came away with, it is a deeper respect for how difficult this problem really is.

---

Watching Israelis live with that tension, even for a week, left me with more respect for the effort than I expected...
...and much less confidence that I would have managed it any better myself.

---

This is the most philosophical essay I've written in a long time.
It isn't about telling you what to think.
It's about asking what history suggests when the wolf is always at the door.
The full essay is here:

https://www.malone.news/p/israel-and-the-neighbor-who-wants

Mainstream media is suddenly telling you to eat less protein.
"Protein restriction increases longevity."
"Eat less protein. Age better."
More than 50 news outlets ran with some version of the story.
I read the actual paper.
The headlines aren't telling you what it actually says.

---

First, this wasn't a clinical trial.
It wasn't a systematic review.
It wasn't a meta-analysis.
It was a narrative review that proposed a biological framework based largely on animal studies, short-term human metabolic studies, and observational research.
That's a very different level of evidence.

---

Yet within days, the public message became remarkably simple:
Eat less protein.
Live longer.
That is a much stronger claim than the paper itself supports.

---

The review contains no long-term randomized human trial showing that reducing protein helps people live longer.
No evidence of increased longevity.
No evidence it prevents dementia.
No evidence it reduces fractures.
No evidence it preserves independence in old age.
Those headlines skipped a few important steps.

---

Much of their longevity data comes from flies, worms, mice, and rats.
But laboratory rodents eating purified synthetic diets are not seventy-year-old humans deciding whether to eat another egg or chicken breast.

---

The human studies are mostly short.
Weeks, not years.
They measure biomarkers like insulin sensitivity or growth factors.
Interesting?
Absolutely.
Proof that people live longer?
No.

---

Another problem.
The review often blends together:
โ€ข Lower total protein โ€ข Methionine restriction โ€ข Isoleucine restriction โ€ข Valine restriction โ€ข Plant vs animal protein
Those are not the same intervention.
But by the end they become one headline:
"Eat less protein."

---

Then there's the biggest issue.
For older adults, protein isn't just another nutrient.
It's the primary defense against losing muscle.
Muscle loss means falls.
Frailty.
Hospitalization.
Loss of independence.
That's not a side issue.
It's central to healthy aging.

---

The paper itself acknowledges that we still don't know the optimal protein intake for humans.
More research is needed.
That may be its most important conclusion.
Almost none of the headlines mentioned it.

---

We've seen this movie before.
During COVID, mechanistic studies, observational analyses, and modeling exercises were repeatedly reported as though they were definitive clinical evidence.
We promised we'd learn the difference between generating a hypothesis and proving one.
Apparently not.

---

The timing is also difficult to ignore.
These outrageuos headlines appeared just as Secretary Kennedy rolled out new dietary guidance emphasizing adequate, high-quality protein, especially for older Americans.
It is hard not to see the headlines as a scientific rebuttal.

---

The real story isn't protein.
It's how science gets communicated.
A hypothesis becomes a review.
The review becomes a press release.
The press release becomes dozens of headlines.
Somewhere along the way, a scientific question becomes medical advice.
That should concern all of us.

---

We went back to the original paper, the references, and the evidence behind the headlines.
If you'd like to see what it actually says, and what it doesn't, we have written the full analysis here:

It isn't even about owning acreage.
It's about becoming a little less dependent.
Growing something.
Making something.
Learning something.
