'Reliability!' β€” Matthew 5:34-37

[Jesus continued:] " But I say, do not make any vows! ... And do not say, 'By the earth!' because the earth is [God's] footstool. And do not say, 'By Jerusalem!' for Jerusalem is the city of the great King. Do not even say, 'By my head!' for you can't turn one hair white or black. Just say a simple, 'Yes, I will,' or 'No, I won't.' Anything beyond this is from the evil one."β€” Matthew 5:34-37 NLT

Key Thought

Don't break your word! In the Kingdom family of God, the truth is ensured by our integrity, not by something outside us. We shouldn't have to swear to ensure our word! Jesus carries this integrity of your word one step further when he tells us not to use a vow to guarantee our words. Let the truthfulness of your speech be the standard mode in which you live, so you do not need to reach out and grab for reliability in something external.

Today's Prayer

Almighty and dependable God, I want to be a person of integrity. I want my words to be true. I want people to be able to trust what I tell them. Please give me strength and courage not to exaggerate, lie, or stretch the truth and courage to do what I say. As your child, blessed by the many promises you have kept, I want to bless others by speaking only the truth and always doing what I say I will do. In Jesus' holy name, I pray. Amen.

The Wisdom of Christ in Action (1)

Text: _But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:_ 1 Corinthians 1:30

One of the attributes of the life of Jesus was the wisdom at work in Him. Believers are to display same wisdom in their daily living. When you depend on God’s wisdom to succeed today, you will see whatever you do prosper. Simply observe how our Lord Jesus always flowed in divine wisdom in His earthly ministry. For example, look at what happened when the Pharisees brought the woman caught in adultery to Him. The Pharisees came to Him and quoted from the law, saying, β€œTeacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?” (John 8:4–5). They thought that they had succeeded in trapping Jesus because if He told them to stone her, then they would accuse Him of not demonstrating the forgiveness and grace that He had been preaching about. If He were to say that they should not stone her, then the Pharisees would accuse Him of breaking the Law of Moses and bring a charge against Him.

The Pharisees were probably gloating over the clever trap that they had devised. That is why they confronted Jesus in the public area around the temple. They wanted to embarrass Him in front of the multitudes that had come to hear Him teach. Now, observe the wisdom of Jesus in operation. He simply told them, β€œHe who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first” (John 8:7). By this statement, the wisdom of Christ handled both the issue of the Pharisees and that of the woman. Wisdom handles the foolishness in this world. We shall look into this again, but ask the Lord to baptize you with His wisdom.

Prayers:
Lord Jesus, baptize me with Your wisdom afresh in Jesus’ Name.
PRAYER

Dear God,
Help me to forgive anyone I need to forgive. Soften my heart and give me the strength to release the hurts I’ve been holding on to. I don’t want to carry the weight of bitterness or the poison of unforgiveness any longer.

Teach me to let go, just as You have forgiven me. Fill me with Your peace and heal the wounds that unforgiveness has left behind. May I walk in freedom and love, choosing grace over resentment each day.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
*_Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:_*
Matthew 7:24

*Prayer :*

I know no one is immune to problems in this world and no amount money or human preparedness can stop them from coming our way. Difficulties hit us and our lives crumble if we build our lives upon the sand.

Help us build our lives on the solid rock of Your promises and Your Word.
Your Word is a lamp unto my feet and light unto my pathway to heaven. May I treasure it not only with my mouth but also in my heart and through my life.

I will not fall but stand tall under Your shelter when the winds of trouble blast against me.
In Jesus' name, I pray.

Saturday Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the gift of this new day. As the weekend begins, I release every stress, worry, and burden into Your hands. Fill my heart with peace, my mind with clarity, and my spirit with joy.

Bless the work of my hands, the dreams in my heart, and the people connected to my purpose. May today be a day of rest, refreshment, and divine alignment. Guide me in every step I take, and let Your presence cover my home and family.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.β€οΈπŸ™‡πŸΏβ€β™‚οΈπŸ™πŸΏπŸ€²πŸΏβ€οΈ
'Redeeming Insult' β€” Matthew 5:38-39

[Jesus continued:] "You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also."β€” Matthew 5:38-39 NLT

Key Thought

Jesus' words draw us to the values of our Heavenly Father. Rather than passively accepting evil, we are to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). Like the suffering servant in Isaiah* who suffers, serves, and redeems in the face of attack and ridicule, we are to work redemption in the face of mistreatment. Jesus reminds us that we are to redeem rather than to try to get even. A slap on the cheek in Jesus' day was more a social insult than a physical injury. In our day, we seldom slap someone on the cheek to embarrass or humiliate that person. Instead, we shoot them a "zinger," cut them down sarcastically, or tell a joke at their expense. This behavior is out of bounds for believers. Such talk does not accomplish the redemption God has called us to share with others.

* See Isaiah 42:1-4, 49:1-6, 50:4-7, 52:13-53:12

Today's Prayer

Holy and patient Father, please strengthen me so that I will look for ways to redeem those who shame and humiliate me. I know that vengeance will only poison my heart and alienate me from the insulting party. Give me grace to react with kindness even toward those who are unkind to me. In the name of the one who did not rebuke his accusers, I pray. Amen.
