POINTING THE WAY, CLEARING THE PATH — JOHN 1:22-23

[After John the Baptizer said he wasn't the Messiah, Elijah, or the Prophet, the people sent by the Jewish leaders to him said,] "Then who are you? We need an answer for those who sent us. What do you have to say about yourself?"
John replied in the words of the prophet Isaiah:
"I am a voice shouting in the wilderness, 'Clear the way for the Lord's coming!'" — John 1:22-23 NLT

John let the questioners know that his identity was not the issue; the one about whom he spoke was the important issue. Yes, John's coming was an answer to prophecy. Yes, John's ministry was powerful and touched many people. Yes, John's work changed an untold number of lives. Yes, John's presence was a signal about God's coming Kingdom. John, however, always kept his role in perspective: He effectively said, "I'm here to point the way to the Messiah. My role is to clear the path for people to find the Lord." No matter what our gifts may be, no matter what talents God has given to us, each of us in our own way is called to follow John's example. We have been put into a circle of friends, family, and acquaintances to point the way to the Messiah and clear a path for those we know to find the Lord.

Today's Prayer

Precious and loving Father, King of the ages and Lord of my heart, please use me to bring others to know Jesus as their Savior and Lord. I especially ask that you give me wisdom as I seek to be a faithful witness to your Son's grace with the following people: ... In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

NEW - Corie A. Walsh, 38, is charged with first-degree murder after strangling her 2-year-old son, telling investigators she killed him because she believed he was the "devil" and the "anti-Christ." Witnesses said she had recently become fixated on the Lindsay Clancy trial.

An infant was in the home unharmed, and two school-age children returned around the time of the discovery. Walsh's husband was out of state and flew home Tuesday evening.

“Do not underestimate the power of this technology. These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionize any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources. We have all witnessed the progress in each of these domains, and progress is not slowing.

The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt. If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible - but I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger.”

The cover of The Economist's "World in 2026" deserves a closer look. It's not just random imagery; it's structured almost like a 12-month calendar.

For example, the August issue featured a melting glacier, hinting at some form of "natural disaster." A few months after the cover was released, Nepal experienced landslides and floods, which were reported by the media as being caused by glacial melt.

While the images on the cover are largely symbolic, considering the actual events that occurred in 2026, a significant number of these "predictions" have already come to pass.

The tank featured in the September issue seems to suggest potential military conflicts or escalations (perhaps even ground warfare), and also hints at expansion in the defense sector and shifts in the balance of power among global superpowers.

A collection of alarming comments made in the last four days by seven different people who are inside the AI world

Jacob Coxon, former AI researcher at Anthropic and OpenAI: "The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.” x.com/hilbertspaess/…
Samuel Marks, Scalable Oversight lead at Anthropic: "AI developers believe their technology could cause human extinction (or similarly bad outcomes). This could happen in the next few years.” x.com/saprmarks/stat…
Evan Hubinger, Alignment Science lead at Anthropic: "Jacob is correct here—we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans!” x.com/EvanHub/status…
Alex Turner, former Research Scientist at Google DeepMind: "I left Google DeepMind in June. Jacob is right: many researchers believe they are building something that could kill everyone on the planet. It was literally my day job to think about how to stop that." x.com/Turn_Trout/sta…
Jakub Pachocki, Chief Scientist at OpenAI: "This is a time that calls for extreme caution. I am concerned no one is prepared for the consequences of a continued rapid rise in machine intelligence.” openai.com/index/an-alien…
Jason Wolfe, Researcher at OpenAI: "I don't know what my probabilities are on literal extinction, but I think there are a number of ways AI could go poorly for humanity, and at the current frankly terrifying pace humanity will be quite lucky if we manage to find and stay on the narrow path between all the bad outcomes.” x.com/w01fe/status/2…
Jonathan Richard Schwarz, former Senior Research Scientist at Google DeepMind: "I left DeepMind after 7 years (and since rejected offers to join the other two) due to severe concerns about the concentration of power these labs represent. What is currently happening in this field is deeply unhealthy for society.” x.com/schwarzjn_/sta…

WHAT RIGHT DO YOU HAVE TO BAPTIZE? — JOHN 1:24-25

Then the Pharisees who had been sent asked [John the Baptizer], "If you aren't the Messiah or Elijah or the Prophet, what right do you have to baptize?" — John 1:24-25 NLT

What right do you have to do what you do? That's a good question, especially for those of us who are blessed with freedom. We take for granted our right to do what we do. Behind this question, however, stands a powerful truth: The only things we have the right to do are the things God in his grace has granted us the right to do. John the Baptizer did what he did because God had called him to the task. John had the opportunities he had because God opened the doors for them. John had the effective ministry he had because he did what God wanted him to do. John's right to baptize, preach, teach, and prepare the way was given him by God. More than just the right to do these things, he had the authority of God to do them. God has great plans for us also. He calls us to his purposes. He has given us the right as his children to bring light to this dark world. Let's use our God-given rights to our Father's glory!

Today's Prayer

Father, thank you for giving me the right to be your child. Inspire me to bold and courageous living for the sake of the Kingdom and the cause of the Good News of Jesus. Please give me a heart as fearless and true as your great servant John the Baptizer. In Jesus' name. Amen.
