"Just, and the justifier of him which believeth." β€” Romans 3:26

Being justified by faith, we have peace with God. Conscience accuses no longer. Judgment now decides for the sinner instead of against him. Memory looks back upon past sins, with deep sorrow for the sin, but yet with no dread of any penalty to come; for Christ has paid the debt of his people to the last jot and tittle, and received the divine receipt; and unless God can be so unjust as to demand double payment for one debt, no soul for whom Jesus died as a substitute can ever be cast into hell. It seems to be one of the very principles of our enlightened nature to believe that God is just; we feel that it must be so, and this gives us our terror at first; but is it not marvellous that this very same belief that God is just, becomes afterwards the pillar of our confidence and peace! If God be just, I, a sinner, alone and without a substitute, must be punished; but Jesus stands in my stead and is punished for me; and now, if God be just, I, a sinner, standing in Christ, can never be punished. God must change his nature before one soul, for whom Jesus was a substitute, can ever by any possibility suffer the lash of the law. Therefore, Jesus having taken the place of the believer-having rendered a full equivalent to divine wrath for all that his people ought to have suffered as the result of sin, the believer can shout with glorious triumph, "Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect?" Not God, for he hath justified; not Christ, for he hath died, "yea rather hath risen again." My hope lives not because I am not a sinner, but because I am a sinner for whom Christ died; my trust is not that I am holy, but that being unholy, he is my righteousness. My faith rests not upon what I am, or shall be, or feel, or know, but in what Christ is, in what he has done, and in what he is now doing for me. On the lion of justice the fair maid of hope rides like a queen.

WHAT HAVE YOU DISCOVERED?

β€œBut the LORD said to her, β€˜Martha, dear friend, you are so upset over all these details! There is really only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered itβ€”and I won't take it away from her!’”
- Luke 10:41–42

From verses 38–40, we see Martha welcomes Jesus and His disciples to her home, and her other sister Mary sits on the floor to listen to Jesus as He talks. Martha is concerned about putting together some big dinner and finds it unfair that her sister is not helping out.

Both sisters loved Jesus, and both were serving. One was listening and the other making something to eat, but Martha's mistake was to imply that her service was more superior to Mary's. Martha didn't realize that in her desire to serve Jesus, she was neglecting Him.

Are you busy doing things for Jesus that you are not spending time with Him? Are you busy putting up all the good works in the face of people and forgetting to also pause and have time with Jesus? Mary discovered what really mattered was listening to Jesus. In this fast-moving world with all our busy schedules, let's have time to discover what really matters. Spending beautiful time in the presence of Jesus.

Don't let your serving become self-serving. Remember and know whom you are serving.

PRAYER
Lord, help me to really discover what really matters in my walk with You.

HE IS THE ONE β€” John 1:31-33

[John the Baptizer said,] "I did not recognize [Jesus] as the Messiah, but I have been baptizing with water so that he might be revealed to Israel."
Then John testified, "I saw the Holy Spirit descending like a dove from heaven and resting upon him. I didn't know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, 'The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.'" β€” John 1:31-33

Isn't it interesting how hard it is for us to see some things because we are too familiar with them? Jesus' brothers and sisters didn't recognize him as God's Son until after his resurrection. The people in his village didn't expect anything of importance from him. They missed who Jesus was! But we are promised that if we seek after him, we will find him. If we look at his teaching, we can determine that he comes from God. If we open the door to him, he will come in and share our lives. If we obey him, he will come and make his home with us. If we receive him, we can be born into the Kingdom of God. So the test for each of us is pretty simple: Do I seek Jesus or am I seeking something else - a teaching, a doctrine, a religion? If we seek the latter things, we can know a lot about Jesus, but never really know HIM. So let's seek Jesus and his new way of life in the Spirit! As we continue to read the Gospel of John together this year, let's always ask God to reveal Jesus clearly to us.

Today's Prayer

Father, help me know Jesus more powerfully and more fully as I study his life and seek to reflect his character in my daily life. Please show yourself to me just as you promised. Open my eyes so that I can see your work clearly in my life and praise you fully with my heart and my actions. Jesus, please let me come to know you and not just know about you. In your precious name, I pray and thank you for being my Savior. Amen.

THE LOED LIFTS UP HIS PEOPLE

The Lord gives sight to the blind. The Lord lifts up people who are in trouble. The Lord loves those who do right. The Lord protects the foreigners. He defends the orphans and widows, but he blocks the way of the wicked. The Lord will be King forever. Jerusalem, your God is everlasting. Praise the Lord! β€” Psalm 146:8-10 NCV

Today's Prayer

Lord, I praise You as the One who heals, the Great Physician. You help those in trouble, showing Your great love to those who follow Your ways. You protect, defend, and watch over the lonely and the helpless with a watchful eye on the orphans and widows. And though it may not seem so at the time, You block the plans of the wicked. Show me what to do and how to help promote Your plans. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
