Breaking Tulsi Gabbard Departure; Might it signal other issues?
One thing for sure is that Tulsi’s departure signals personal sacrifice amid extraordinarily difficult duties and circumstances.
However, the optics during wartime (yes, our nation is at war) will be amplified by many with conspiracies, perceptions of conspiracies, and many credible and incredible social media observations of instability inside the administration, transition friction, or unresolved internal debates over the war’s direction, purpose and/or justification.
History will be the best judge of those decisions that caused the U.S. to enter this war in the first place, but for now, we’re in it and it has to be resolved in our favor.
In my judgement, Tulsi has been one of the most effective members of President Donald J. Trump‘s cabinet all while dealing with obvious internal disagreements and tensions.
The “Acting” leadership might fill the immediate gaps, but sustained effectiveness depends on how quickly a permanent replacement is confirmed and whether the IC maintains coherence during this transition.
While everyone is replaceable, Tulsi brought a unique no nonsense approach to her job as the DNI. That will be a huge void to fill. The bureaucracy will move quickly to fill in holes but instead of maintaining her level of transparency, the holes will be filled with concrete and fences will be erected around them.
Wars test institutions.
Our President understands there is already a serious deficit of trust between the Intelligence Community and the people it is suppose to serve. Tulsi was well on her way to closing that deficit.
The President also has a big task on hand to quickly fill the gap or risk serious concerns about trust as the nation rolls into another challenging political season, one this President and our nation can ill afford to be on the losing side of.
Leadership changes is a stress point in the mildest of situations. However, in this era of uncertainty where great challenges and threats face our nation, this change is one that must be handled with great skill.
Lastly, this leadership change is not necessarily fatal, but the transition of another cabinet member, one of such prominence as the Director of the United States intelligence system, rates more than a footnote in the Trump presidency. This loss may require a chapter all by itself.

Breaking: Restoring Trust!
My friend Seth Keshel is one of the most honest and rigorous minds in America when it comes to the data behind our elections.
After the 2022 midterm disaster, Seth sent me a private message. Like many of us, he was discouraged. The fight felt heavier than the progress. What I told him then, I will tell everyone reading this now.
Our faith teaches that with God all things are possible. That does not mean we sit on our hands and wait for Him to fix what He called us to fix. We seek His direction, and then we move. We stand our posts. God does not want us cowering in the trench while Satan rampages through our institutions and through this world. He has tasked us with proclaiming truth and shining His light into the darkest places. There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is sovereign over all, does not cry, "Mine."
That message was for Seth on a hard day two years ago. It is for every American with eyes open today.
Seth's new book, The American War on Election Corruption: The Crusade to Restore Trust in Voting, is the most comprehensive account of election fraud ever assembled in a single volume.

Dear Mr. President Donald J. Trump
The regime in Iran is lying to you and your negotiators (period, stop!). Do not believe a word they say. I know you want to get out of this mess. All Americans want this unnecessary war to end. Keep in mind, as you have been told many times, Iran is still the leading state sponsor of terrorism (all anyone needs to say is Hezbollah, Hamas & Houthis, never mind IRGC-QF). None of these organizations are going away with this deal.
How about getting them to first publicly apologize for killing American Soldiers and U.S. Marines many times over (especially on this Memorial Day weekend). Yes, we are all sick of it.
And yes, the people of Iran must step up, but we need to signal to them, we will not concede their freedoms to the insane regime in Teheran. They deserve better. If we don’t, we will cause an entire population to be enslaved. For this, we have to smartly use our Middle East partners to support them along with our covert and clandestine operators. Trust me, if you support, this is very doable.
Anyway, I’m watching everything (like most of the world is) and admittedly I do not have all the information. But if we pay tribute to the regime to the tune of $25B, I’m concerned they’ll use it for nefarious purposes down the road.
No nukes in Iran may be a noble idea (an end goal for your administration) but the regime has blatantly lied to our faces before, why do you now believe they will tell you the truth?
Give it some thought. Get some out of the box solutions, and rethink your position. The art of the deal tells you to do that from time to time.
Now may be that time.

There are 8 men and women I think about every Memorial Day. I have for more years than I care to count.
I had just taken command of a battalion when my operations NCO walked into the command post with the kind of quiet in his voice that rearranges a man's life. A helicopter was down. I started walking up the road toward the smoke. When I came over the rise, there was no helicopter. Only a black patch burned into the earth in the rough outline of where the aircraft had come to rest. Inside that outline, 8 small bumps. The silence that followed is one I have never been able to describe to anyone who was not standing there with me.
33 years in the uniform of this Nation taught me that the fallen are not asking for our tears. They are asking for our fidelity. They are asking whether we will defend the Constitution they died protecting and whether we will stand watch over this Republic in peace as faithfully as they stood watch over it in war.
This Memorial Day, stand up a little straighter, hold your children a little closer, love your Country a little louder, and pray a little harder.
The watch they kept must not be dropped on our shift.

A close friend sent me this today as a reminder of so much sacrifice that Americans have endured to protect the sanctity of our freedoms. Maintaining freedom demands sacrifice. Freedom has required it in our past and it will require it in our future.

It is a significant moment when an institution committed to serious strategic thought expands its reach beyond borders. The Gold Institute for International Strategy is doing exactly that, formally taking its place as an international organization with the First European Economic and Security Summit in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on 27 and 28 May 2026.
The Summit will convene senior policymakers, security experts, and economic leaders from across the European Union, the United States, the Middle East and other allied and partner nations for a thoughtful and timely dialogue on the future of the Balkan region and beyond. Discussions will address the evolving transatlantic security architecture, economic resilience and regional integration, hybrid threats and information operations, energy and infrastructure corridors, and the role of democratic institutions in underpinning lasting stability.
The Gold Institute's emergence as an international convening body reflects a growing recognition that cooperation between people, cultures, religions, and nations requires shared forums, shared analysis, and shared resolve.
This is challenging but principled, forward-looking work, and the conversation in Banja Luka will help shape it.

Breaking: WAR (A teaching moment for those interested in military strategy and theory).
War is a result of a failure of policy, poor policy is a failure of strategy, a lack of strategy is a failure of leadership, a failure of leadership is deadly.
In Sun Tzu's, The Art of War, he strongly emphasizes achieving victory through strategy, deception, and positioning rather than direct combat, ideally by avoiding or preventing war altogether when possible.
His core idea is that the highest form of skill isn’t winning battles through force but subduing the opponent without ever needing to fight.
Here are some of Sun Tzu's masterpiece thoughts on war without fighting.
1. The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.
2. To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill. To fight and conquer in all battles is not supreme excellence, supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting. Winning every fight is good, but preventing the need for them is far superior.
3. In the practical art of war, the best thing of all is to take the enemy’s country whole and intact. To shatter and destroy it is not so good. Preserving resources and avoiding destruction through superior strategy is ideal.
4. The shrewd warrior avoids the battle, and the greatest victory is that which requires no battle. These reinforce prudence and foresight over unnecessary engagement.
Bottom line: Sun Tzu advises knowing yourself and the enemy thoroughly, using deception and trickery, attacking weaknesses while avoiding strengths, and choosing when not to fight.
He views prolonged warfare (attrition) or destructive warfare (annihilation) as a failure of strategy, preferring psychological, diplomatic, or positional victories that render one's opposition helpless before the battle is even waged.
Essentially, Sun Tzu saw war as a last resort and a costly endeavor. The smartest leaders win by making conflict unnecessary through superior planning, sound, reliable intelligence, and adaptability. These ideas have influenced military and business leaders, as well as being vital components of conflict resolution for centuries.
Military practitioners are not the only ones who have read Sun Tzu. It is translated in many languages and dialects all across the globe. Many fail to read it, most fail to follow the guidelines. War isn’t an unnecessary outcome, but before engaging, there must be very clear objectives and an even clearer end state.
