History being repeated. I’m sure not many Australians know about the 1940s campaign to establish a Jewish community in the Kimberley’s. Gina’s father Lang was an influential supporter of it.

Lang Hancock was an outspoken supporter of Dr. Isaac Steinberg's proposal (known as the Kimberley Plan) to establish a Jewish settlement in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Hancock, a prominent pastoralist and mining magnate, advocated for the plan as a means to develop the remote northern region of the state.

His support was rooted in his broader belief that populating and developing northern Australia was vital for the nation's progress and security.

The settlement proposal, led by Steinberg on behalf of the Freeland League, ultimately failed after facing staunch opposition from the federal government and concerns over establishing autonomous enclaves.
