Using pre-Islamic Arabian inscriptions, historical linguistics, and comparative religious analysis, I demonstrate that:
• Allah existed before Islam
• Allah was not originally a monotheistic god
• Allah functioned as a high god within a plural religious system
• Islam later redefined and monopolised this name
• The process mirrors what happened earlier with Yahweh in ancient Israel
