Nine-year-old girl dies after being left in a hot car while her mother was at work

The 36-year-old mother left her young daughter in the backseat of her Toyota Camry while she worked a 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. shift at United States Gypsum in Galena Park (Houston, Texas)

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the mother left the child with “some water, the windows partially down, and proceeded to go to work for the day.”

It’s unclear if the mother checked on the child at any point during her shift

The girl was transported to Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital, where she was pronounced dead
