🔴 Israel Furious as Britain Suspends Arms Sales

Israel has accused the UK of rewarding Hamas after it announced plans to suspend some export arms licenses.

UK FM David Lammy told MPs a two-month review had found a “clear risk” that British arms may be used in serious violations of international humanitarian law.

There were reports of friction with the US over the decision. Washington has said there is no basis for a suspension of arms exports.

💶 French public finances “worse than feared”

France’s public finances are in a dire state following an “extremely rapid rise in spending,” Emmanuel Macron’s outgoing finance minister has admitted.

Bruno Le Maire blamed lower tax revenues and a splurge by local authorities for a massive overshoot in spending compared with plans set out earlier this year. 

The gridlocked French govt is facing a deficit that threatens to spiral out of control, he conceded in a letter to parliamentarians.
