Chancellor Scholz’s embattled coalition could be heading for collapse and a snap election, German media reported, amid speculation that ministers will not be able to agree on a 2025 budget.

Tensions within the chancellor’s three-way “traffic light” coalition have simmered for months over mass migration, budget issues and poor election results.

Two German media outlets, Watson and DeutschlandFunk, have suggested March 9 as the date of a highly unusual snap election, which could be called if the govt falls apart in the coming weeks.

⚡️ Western sanctions on Russian oil are losing effectiveness day by day, and their escalation could undermine the global economy, writes the French newspaper Le Monde.

The EU has imposed 14 sanction packages against Russia and set a price cap on Russian oil at $60 per barrel. Although some analysts state that the sanctions will begin to hit Russia's revenues in the long term, Le Monde points out that in reality, their impact is diminishing each day.

The newspaper also notes that the global economy today heavily depends on oil, one of the main producers of which is Russia. Disruptions in supply, which could be triggered by the tightening of anti-Russian restrictions, may lead to a sharp rise in prices, which, in turn, could cause an increase in the cost of fertilizers and agricultural products. Ultimately, this could result in a significant rise in food prices.

🧐 Harris leads Trump among early voters, polls show

Kamala Harris has a 19-29 point advantage amongst American voters who say they have already cast their ballots, according to several US major polls. 

Biden had a greater margin in late 2020 polls - although Killary Hillary Clinton had only a 8-16 point lead over Donald Trump in 2016.

Some 54% of the 60mn Americans who have already voted are women, according to the University of Florida’s Election Lab.
