❌ Terror Watchdog Fears Creation of New Islamic State after Assad Downfall

The overthrow of Assad risks creating a haven for terrorists that could lead to a new form of Islamic State, the UK’s terror watchdog has warned.

Jonathan Hall KC, the independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, said he was “as worried as I was with Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan” after the fast-moving developments that resulted in the designated terror group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) seizing the capital, Damascus.

However, the UK govt is reviewing the designation of HTS as a terrorist group, with ministers saying its leader is “saying some of the right things.”

One of the suspects inside the “organised cell” had allegedly claimed to have “trained” five people as “potential warriors” to kill the Meloni, according to the warrants.

Things are going from bad to worse for London’s IPO market, where less money has been raised this year than on some tiny frontier venues.

Fundraising from London initial public offerings has declined about 9% this year to $1bn, pushing the UK four spots lower to 20th place in a ranking of global IPO venues, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

It’s been leapfrogged by upstarts including Oman, a market that’s 1% the size of the UK, as well as Malaysia and Luxembourg.

Before Brexit, London would regularly feature among the top five venues globally.

Nearly 100 vials contained the Hendra virus, transmitted from horses to humans, with a 57% fatality rate. Two had the hantavirus, spread by rodents, with a 38% fatality rate and 223 vials contained the lyssavirus – a rabies virus, with an almost 100% fatality rate.

The breach was only discovered in August 2023, despite the samples going missing in 2021 - in what Queensland Health Minister Tim Nicholls described as a "serious breach of biosecurity protocols."

The lab has not been able to conclude if the viruses were destroyed or removed from secure storage but claimed they do not appear to have been stolen.
