Georgescu election win
Romania’s ruling National Liberal Party (PNL) paid for a campaign on TikTok that ended up favoring right-wing independent candidate Călin Georgescu, a new report from investigative outlet snoop.ro indicates.
According to the investigation, the campaign - that Romania’s intel services claimed was "identical to Russian operations in Ukraine" - was in fact organized by a marketing firm called Kensington Communication, hired by PNL… the party that supported cancelling the election.
Kensington Communication then used a platform called FameUp to coordinate 130 influencers with specific scripts and messaging guidelines.
So, what Romania’s courts presented as evidence of “foreign interference” - was actually a campaign paid for by the ruling party.

Biden has commuted the sentences of 37 of 40 men on federal death row Monday - a list that includes at least five child killers and several mass murders.
Biden, who opposes the death penalty, lowered each of the 37 sentences to life in prison without parole.
He did not say why specifically he considered the original penalties unjust.

More than 10,000 serving sailors, soldiers and aviators cannot go to war because they have been declared medically unfit, the Times has revealed.
In addition, nearly 15k troops can only be deployed if the mission meets certain criteria, such as the weather is not too hot or too cold and they are not exposed to noise.
In the case of the army, 16,335 soldiers are either “medically not deployable” or “medically limited deployable”, out of a total of 71,340 personnel, amounting to 23% of all troops.

Almost one in four drivers tested for alcohol in Paris are over the limit and 37% are under the influence of drugs, according to figures from the city’s police. (Le Parisien)
Nearly 6k drivers were over the limit of 0.5 grams of alcohol per litre of blood in 25k tests in Paris in 2023 and 6k were found positive for drugs.
Campaigners blame poor public transport and a lack of deterrents for the high numbers.
