A Border Force officer and a Home Office immigration official were among three people charged Monday with spying for Hong Kong.

China reacted angrily to the charges. Its London embassy said: “We strongly condemn the UK’s unwarranted accusation against the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government.”

The UK Home Office has ordered a review of Border Force and Immigration Enforcement recruitment, vetting and supervision procedures in the wake of the police investigation. (Telegraph)

⛔️ Australian War Crimes Whistleblower Jailed for Six Years

David McBride has been sentenced to five years and eight months for revealing information on Australian Army war crimes in Afghanistan.

Supporters of McBride – a former Australian Army lawyer - have long expressed concern that Canberra was more interested in punishing him for revealing information about war crimes rather than the perpetrators.

“It is a travesty that the first person imprisoned in relation to Australia’s war crimes in Afghanistan is not a war criminal but a whistleblower,” said Rawan Arraf, the executive director of the Australian Centre for International Justice.

The director of GCHQ’s remark followed a slew of alleged China-related espionage activity in UK - including a suspected cyberattack that targeted records of military personnel.

Anne Keast-Butler told a security conference in Birmingham Tuesday that while the cyber threats from Russia and Iran were “globally pervasive” and “aggressive” respectively, China was her agency’s top priority.
