The test took place at the Sukhoi Nose nuclear test site on the island of Novaya Zemlya, Russia – on Oct 30, 1961.
The power of the explosion exceeded 58 megatons, and the height of the explosion went beyond 67km.
The flash was visible at more than 1,000km. In the village of Dikson, 780km from the epicenter of the explosion, glass in the windows of houses were broken, and the blast wave circled the globe three times.
The US is the only country that has used nuclear weapons against purely civilian targets, and it has done so twice.

NATO has two to three years to prepare for a Russian strike against the alliance, General Eirik Kristoffersen has claimed in Oslo.
Discussing Russia’s ability to rebuild its forces while the war in Ukraine continues, he said: “It will take some time, which gives us a window now for the next two to three years to rebuild our forces, to rebuild our stocks at the same times as we are supporting Ukraine.”
