People using semaglutide to treat diabetes or lose weight may be at higher risk of developing a condition that causes sudden sight loss, according to a new study by JAMA Ophthalmology.

Semaglutide is the active ingredient in weight-loss jabs Ozempic and Wegovy.

People with diabetes prescribed semaglutide were more than 4x more likely to be diagnosed with non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy, the study concluded.

Meanwhile, people who were overweight or obese were more than 7x as likely to develop the condition - as those on other weight-loss medicines.
