President Nayib Bukele, the millennial leader who once styled himself “the world’s coolest dictator,” was responding to recent steep rises for food and other basics in El Salvador.

The president warned shopkeepers and suppliers that he was “not playing around,” stressing: “I expect the prices to come down by tomorrow or there are going to be problems.”

“I am going to issue a call, like we did the gangs at the start of 2019… to the importers, distributors and food wholesalers: stop abusing the people of El Salvador, or don’t complain about what happens afterward,” he stated.

Elbridge Colby has informed the UK that they should not expect significant support from the US on Ukraine under a second Trump administration, and called for Europe to take “primary responsibility” for the war. (The Telegraph)

He also suggested London should deploy a “Britain first” approach to defense and security.

Colby, a military strategist, said the US was more focused on threats from China, where there is “very little the British military can realistically do” to help.

⚠️ Germany Makes Defense Funding Cuts on Eve of NATO Summit

The German army was promised a $108bn rearmament fund after decades of underinvestment, with much of it to be covered by its military budget.

Defense minister Boris Pistorius, of Olaf Scholz’s centre-Left SPD, wanted about $6.4bn a year on top of his $56bn budget – but after weeks of talks, he has been given just $1.3bn.

Pistorius is reportedly frustrated by the real terms cut to the rearmament project, dubbed the Zeitenwende, or dawn of a new era, by the Chancellor, believing it sends the wrong message and hampers the transformation of the German military.
