⚠️ Germany Makes Defense Funding Cuts on Eve of NATO Summit

The German army was promised a $108bn rearmament fund after decades of underinvestment, with much of it to be covered by its military budget.

Defense minister Boris Pistorius, of Olaf Scholz’s centre-Left SPD, wanted about $6.4bn a year on top of his $56bn budget – but after weeks of talks, he has been given just $1.3bn.

Pistorius is reportedly frustrated by the real terms cut to the rearmament project, dubbed the Zeitenwende, or dawn of a new era, by the Chancellor, believing it sends the wrong message and hampers the transformation of the German military.

The Israeli defense minister held an assessment on the matter with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi and other officials Tuesday morning, his office said.
