Beijing has stressed that there should be no cause for alarm over new legal guidelines which mandate execution for ‘die-hard’ Taiwanese separatists.

The message to Taiwanese employees of China-based multinational companies comes after the guidelines were published in June – the legislation raises questions about how and when Chinese authorities will draw their red lines.

After the issuing of the death penalty threat, Taiwan’s government raised its travel warning for China and some foreign companies began to consider moving their Taiwanese employees out of the country. (Reuters)

⚠️ ‘Massive arson attack paralyzes’ French railway system

France’s high-speed national rail network has been “sabotaged” by “coordinated, malicious” attacks - in an apparent bid to cause chaos before Friday evening’s opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.

Signals along the tracks were set on fire and cables cut and set alight, sources close to the investigation said.

The attacks triggered mass cancellations and were launched as Paris prepares for the opening ceremony, with 7,500 athletes, 300,000 spectators and an audience of VIPs.
