☄️ Durov Detained at Paris Airport

The Telegram founder has been held on the basis of an investigation which links him to falling foul of French law.

TF1 reports that the platform's lack of cooperation and its tools makes it complicit in drug trafficking, scams and child criminal offences.

Durov is a French passport holder and is being held in custody.

▪️Russia's permanent representative to international organisations in Vienna, Ulyanov, said it was unsafe for people with influence in the international information space to visit 'countries moving towards totalitarianism';

▪️Musk called Durov's arrest a "compelling advertisement" for the First Amendment to the US Constitution, which guarantees freedom of speech. Commenting on the incident, he noted that in Europe in 2030, people will be executed for liking a meme;

▪️Durov "will soon appear before an investigating judge for possible charges," said French lawyer Frederic Belo;

▪️US House of Representatives member Marjorie Taylor-Green said: "Freedom of speech is under attack around the world;

▪️Durov's arrest is linked to the French authorities' desire to control Telegram, according to former French MEP Emerick Choprade;

▪️Former Austrian Foreign Minister Kneissl said the charges against Durov were "simply crazy": "This is about Telegram as such."

▪️Kim Dotcom, founder of the Megaupload file-sharing network, said there had been an intensified attack on free speech.

📱 France Extends Telegram CEO Durov's detention - amid investigation into app's moderation practices

French judicial authorities decided late Sunday to extend his custody, which is limited to 96 hours. (Le Point)

At the end of his detention, Pavel Durov must be released or brought before a judge for possible indictment.

Telegram pushed back strongly against any suggestion of wrongdoing in an online statement on Sunday, saying it abides by all EU laws and its founder “has nothing to hide."

🛸 Kim Jong-un calls for development of more suicide drones

His comments were made during a weekend visit to the Drone Institute of North Korea’s Academy of Defense Sciences, when the supreme leader watched as new “suicide drones” took off and destroyed designated targets including a mock tank after flying along preset routes.

Photos released by KCNA show Kim, dressed in a baggy all-white outfit and cap, inspecting blurred out drones while appearing to give instructions to senior officials.

Donald Trump’s campaign office released a video Monday sharply criticizing the Biden admin’s Middle East policy and issuing a stark warning to Iran.

The 1-minute ad mentions Biden’s decision to release frozen assets to Tehran, referring to it as a “$6 billion ransom to Iran.”

Trump then delivers a message to the camera: “History shows very plainly that evil only respects one thing: unyielding strength.

When I’m back in the White House, our enemies will know if you spill a drop of American blood, we will spill a gallon of yours.”
