⛩ Japan Acquits Man after 46 Years on Death Row

A set of blood-stained trousers found in a tank of miso in 1967 sealed a young Iwao Hakamada’s destiny as the world’s longest serving death row inmate.

But on Thursday, former professional boxer Hakamada, now 88, was finally acquitted by a Japanese court of the murder of his boss, the man’s wife and their two teenage children.

Hakamada was too fragile to attend the hearing in person, but his sister bowed in thanks to the judge who declared her brother “innocent” after a miscarriage of justice spanning more than five decades.

In March 2014, the Shizuoka court granted him a retrial after DNA evidence surfaced which questioned the reliability of his conviction and raised the possibility that prosecutors could have planted evidence.

❌ IDF Conducts Exercises Next to Lebanon Border - as Netanyahu Ignores Ceasefire Deal

The Israeli Army’s 7th brigade has conducted drills just a few kilometres from the border with Lebanon, the IDF said in a statement Thursday. 

It follows the military’s army chief telling troops that “boots will enter enemy territory” ahead of a “possible” ground invasion.

Thousands of Israeli reservists were also called up for operations on the northern border.
