🚢 US Claims China’s Most Advanced Submarine “Sinks” in Shipyard (WSJ)

The new Zhou-class nuclear-powered submarine - which features a distinctive X-shaped stern – was spotted on satellite images alongside a pier at Wuchang Shipyard as it was being equipped for sea in late May.

It is claimed to have sunk later that month or in early June. Suspicion was allegedly raised when floating cranes were seen at the site soon afterwards.

A senior US defence official told The Wall Street Journal: “It’s not surprising that the PLA Navy would try to conceal the fact that their new first-in-class nuclear-powered attack submarine sank pierside."

China’s Foreign Ministry said it “knew nothing” about the alleged incident in a statement Friday.

Rinson Jose, a Norwegian-Indian man linked to the sale of pagers to Hezbollah that exploded last week, has been reported missing.

He disappeared while on a work trip to the US last week. He is a founder of a Bulgarian company that was reportedly part of the pager supply chain.

Jose declined to comment on the pagers when he was contacted by Reuters on 18 September and hung up after being asked about the Bulgarian business. He then failed to respond to multiple calls and messages.
