Russian FM Sergey Lavrov arrived in Laos, where he will take part in the East Asia Summit (EAS) on October 11.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will also visit Laos to participate in the events of ASEAN, including the EAS, instead of Biden.

The Russian foreign ministry did not report on possible contacts with the American delegation, but in July, Lavrov and Blinken, who were also in Laos at the same time for events of these formats, did not meet separately. The foreign ministry also noted that Lavrov has scheduled bilateral meetings with Asian colleagues, but did not specify whom.

🤡 US Envoy to Japan Proposes NATO-Like Economic Group to Combat China’s Dominance

The US and its allies should form a coalition to counter China's economic coercion with a unified stance, Rahm Emanuel noted in an opinion piece for the WSJ.

One idea could be a trade-defense partnership in the Indo-Pacific region, Emanuel said, and for that to be effective, it "would need the economic equivalent of the NATO's Article 5 - an attack on one is an attack on all - at its core."

He added that the US "must now further integrate economic statecraft into its wider strategic latticework architecture."

"There are 5.5mn people involved in the automotive industry in Japan. Among them are those who have been doing engine-related (work) for a long time," Akio Toyoda told reporters - warning suppliers would also be hit by the move.

In January, Toyoda said EVs would at most account for 30% of the global auto market, with hybrids, hydrogen fuel-cell and fuel-burning vehicles making up the rest. He did not specify a timeframe for that forecast.
