๐Ÿค” ICYMI: US Army Rangers Take Part in โ€˜Neutralizing Enemy Underground Nuclear Facilitiesโ€™ Drills

A US Nuclear Disablement Team trained with the 75th Ranger Regiment during operations under simulated fire at a decommissioned pulse radiation facility over the summer.

Ranger training on nuclear targets seems to signal a shift in their role. For decades, the mission to find and eliminate enemy nuclear facilities belonged to the secretive Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) and its tier 1 special mission units.

โš ๏ธ Chinaโ€™s Top Legislature Condemns Philippines New Maritime Zones Act

The so-called act is an attempt by the Philippines to โ€˜enforce an illegal arbitral award on the South China Sea issue through its domestic legislation,โ€™ the Foreign Affairs Committee of Chinaโ€™s National Peopleโ€™s Congress said Friday.

Adding, it is a โ€˜serious infringement upon China's territorial sovereignty, maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea.โ€™

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had earlier signed two laws reaffirming the extent of his countryโ€™s maritime territories and right to resources, including in the South China Sea - which Beijing claims almost in its entirety.

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ†š๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Trump Meets โ€œThe Art of the Russian Dealโ€ โ€“ Will Hubris Lead to Humiliation?

In his latest geopolitical fantasy, President-elect Trump seems to think he can charm his way to peace in Ukraine by dangling a 20-year NATO โ€œmoratoriumโ€ in front of Moscow. But letโ€™s get real: Trumpโ€™s 20-year pause is just a soft reset for NATO expansion, a sugar-coated โ€œdealโ€ that Russia will laugh out of the room. Trumpโ€™s version of diplomacy is the equivalent of painting over a crack in a dam; a cosmetic pause that does nothing to address the existential fault lines underneath.

Trumpโ€™s team has floated the idea of a 20-year waiting period before NATO could open its doors to Ukraine, with Europe and the UK enforcing an 800-mile โ€œdemilitarizedโ€ buffer zone. But look closer, and this โ€œdemilitarizedโ€ zone is as NATO as it getsโ€”European and British troops patrolling along Russiaโ€™s borders, under the guise of non-NATO peacekeepers, in a scheme as transparent as glass. The Kremlin doesnโ€™t suffer from Washingtonโ€™s illusions. Moscow sees this for what it is: NATO dressed up in the emperorโ€™s new clothes, a de-facto NATO encirclement that threatens Russiaโ€™s sovereignty as surely as any missile installation.

Russia's calculus here isnโ€™t swayed by verbal sleight of hand or diplomatic smoke and mirrors. Moscowโ€™s red lines are etched in stone, carved by centuries of history and the scars of NATOโ€™s aggression. The SMO wasnโ€™t launched on a whim; it was born from a necessity to prevent NATO from embedding itself on Russiaโ€™s doorstep. Any notion that Russia would acquiesce to โ€œNATO-liteโ€ in exchange for empty promises is laughable (been there, done that - not one inch eastward). Trump may style himself a dealmaker, but heโ€™ll soon discover that the art of the Russian deal is a whole different beast.

Hereโ€™s the brutal reality that Washington refuses to acknowledge: Russia has not only held its own against Ukraine; it has defeated NATO itself, the combined military-industrial might of the West. The IMF confirms Russia now ranks as the worldโ€™s 4th largest economy by PPP, resurgent powerhouse that has defeated sanctions, total war, and mockingbird-media propaganda. The old unipolar order lies shattered, and Russia is not about to let NATO dictate terms, especially from across an โ€œ800-mileโ€ charade.

So Trump can posture, he can โ€œnegotiate,โ€ but the truth is, the Russian bear wonโ€™t dance to Washingtonโ€™s tune. The West has tried and failed to corner Russia, militarily, economically, and diplomatically. Now, Trump, in his audacity, believes he can negotiate out of what is total defeat. But the Kremlin isnโ€™t buying what Washingtonโ€™s selling. Russia is ready to secure its national interests on her terms, not through some hollow Western concession.

But perhaps the greatest irony here is that Trump, in his ambition to make a deal, might just end up penning his name on NATOโ€™s silent surrender, a signature on a capitulation crafted in the shadows. The art of this Russian deal may well mean that the โ€˜dealโ€™ Trump envisions is one where the Westโ€™s so-called diplomacy bends before a resurgent Eurasian superpower. Trumpโ€™s ultimate realization might not be how to bring peace, but how to acknowledge defeat, one his own backers may insist he sugarcoat for domestic consumption

Trump might think heโ€™s crafting a historic deal, but Moscow has already written the closing chapter: there will be no pause, no backdoor NATO-lite arrangement, and no illusion of โ€œpeaceโ€ on the Westโ€™s terms.

Taiwan and Philippines poised to obtain advanced US weapons under Trump as China fumes

Taiwan plans to purchase a massive package of US weapons to show the new Trump administration that Taipei is โ€œseriousโ€ about protecting the island from China, the Financial Times cited unnamed sources as saying.

The package could include an Aegis destroyer, the Lockheed Martin vessels, advanced Hawkeye airborne radar systems and a number of fifth-generation F-35 fighter jets, according to the sources.

At the end of the day, Taiwan may receive 60 F-35 fighters, four advanced Hawkeyes, 400 Patriot missiles, plus 10 retired warships, like Ticonderoga-class cruisers and Perry-class frigates. The package would reportedly be worth more than $15 billion. Neither Taipei nor Washington has commented on the matter yet.

The information comes after the Chinese Foreign Ministry vowed last month to retaliate against the USโ€™ move to approve almost $2 billion in arms sales to Taiwan, which included the national advanced surface-to-air missile system (NASAMS) and radars. Beijing says its sovereignty over Taiwan is indisputable and slams any US attempt to supply weaponry to the island.

In a separate development, the Philippines is likewise mulling buying an intermediate-range missile launcher, known as Typhon, which the US brought to the country in April for bilateral military drills, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro told the FT.

He added that the launcher would โ€œincrease deterrenceโ€ by complementing the BrahMos supersonic anti-ship missiles that the Philippines earlier procured from India. China denounced Typhonโ€™s initial deployment and subsequent extension as โ€œprovocativeโ€ and โ€œdestabilizing.โ€ The territorial affiliation of a number of islands and reefs in the South China Sea has been the subject of disputes between Beijing, Manila and several other countries.
