The notion that "Bitcoin belongs to the community" is a façade – a dangerous illusion of collectivism. When you relinquish ownership to some undefined "community," you are not liberating the concept of Bitcoin; you are binding it, enslaving it to the whims of a few shadowy figures who wield true power. "Community ownership" is merely a mask for centralization under a select elite, whether they call themselves BTC Core or something else entirely. Just as Stalin ruled behind the mask of serving "the people," BTC Core exerts control over Bitcoin under the guise of communal interest.
This is the poison of collectivist ideas – they lull you into believing that you are part of a great, shared endeavor, all while reducing you to a pawn, a mere instrument in someone else’s game. In reality, no community truly “owns” anything. Only the individual, with his or her mind, choices, and property, can lay claim to genuine ownership. Anything less is a betrayal of reason, a handover of one’s sovereignty to others. Bitcoin, if it is to remain true to its origins, must stand for individual ownership, not the empty rhetoric of "community" that inevitably hides a tyrant's ambitions.

Truth stands as an absolute, a concept untouchable by whim or wounded pride.
To argue that truth should bend because someone feels “offended” is to invite the corruption of reality by subjective emotions. If we allow offense to dictate truth, then truth itself becomes an empty shell, a malleable tool in the hands of anyone with an agenda.
The very idea is absurd: offense is not evidence, nor is it argument. It proves nothing beyond a person’s own discomfort with reality.
To claim offense as a rebuttal is to dodge the question, to abandon reason.
It is a tactic, not a truth.
And the true absurdity lies here—who can prove their “offense” is genuine? It could just as easily be feigned, a convenient weapon used to silence a challenge or win a debate without substance.
To be offended by truth is a personal failing, a refusal to accept what is. The world is not obligated to spare our feelings, and we have no right to demand that it should.
Truth exists beyond the reach of emotion. If it offends, that offense reflects the limitations of the person, not the validity of the fact. We each have a responsibility to seek truth without fear of who it may disturb.
For anyone who claims to be “offended” by reality, the answer is simple: face it, grow stronger, and move on.

What, then, is hate speech?
Who decides, and by what standard, that a particular utterance deserves to be silenced or punished?
Hate speech is not an objective term; it is a tool of subjective interpretation, a label that shifts and expands as governments see fit.
It is a concept crafted to make condemnation and restriction flexible, adaptable to whatever message those in power deem undesirable at any given time.
With hate speech, the goalposts are not fixed; they are moved and manipulated, widening or narrowing based on political expedience, ensuring that the threat of accusation hangs over everyone.
If something can be called hate merely because it offends or challenges, then anyone can be guilty, anyone can be silenced, and the state holds the ultimate authority over what can and cannot be said.
A system that upholds absolute free speech—where speech is recorded and attributable, not suppressed—is the only way to prevent this creeping tyranny. In such a system, people are free to speak, to err, even to be offensive, but they are also held accountable, open to challenge and debate.
That is the essence of #freedom, not the shifting, subjective tyranny cloaked in the guise of protecting society from hate.

Absolute free speech means allowing people to say anything, regardless of whether it’s right or wrong, true or false. It doesn’t censor or block expression, even if that expression is offensive, mistaken, or controversial.
Under absolute free speech, every viewpoint can be aired without the looming threat of restriction. Yet, this freedom isn’t a free pass for lies or slander to go unchallenged. The solution isn’t to silence people; it’s to ensure accountability, to let speech be scrutinized openly, and for those responsible to stand behind what they say.
This is where a system like Bitcoin’s, or more broadly, a decentralized ledger, could transform the idea of free speech in practice. Imagine a platform where words aren’t erased or hidden but recorded, where individuals cannot escape accountability by deleting their posts or hiding their actions. A public, immutable record doesn’t prevent anyone from speaking, but it does ensure that speech is attributable. When someone puts out slander or libel, their statement is traceable to them. They can say what they want, but they are accountable for the impact of their words.
Such a system doesn’t suppress speech but empowers a free marketplace of ideas where claims, especially harmful or false ones, can be examined and refuted transparently. With this, we move from a world where speech is controlled to one where actions—words included—have consequences. People are free to speak, but they’re equally open to being confronted and held accountable for their words. In this framework, truth isn’t imposed by authority; it’s uncovered through open debate, with every claim tied to its originator, fostering a system where speech is free, but responsibility is inescapable.

The so-called Bitcoin Standard, as described by Saifedean Ammous, is a perversion of Bitcoin’s original intent—a retreat into the fetters that Bitcoin was explicitly designed to shatter. His vision of BTC as “digital gold” misses the essence of Bitcoin, twisting it into a passive asset meant to sit idly under the guard of trusted third parties, accumulating dust instead of fulfilling its destiny as a medium of exchange. In the true spirit of digital cash, Bitcoin was meant to liberate individuals from the bondage of intermediaries, enabling direct, immediate transactions without a central overseer. But Ammous seeks to chain it, to relegate it to the dark vaults of custodial control, abandoning the notion of Bitcoin as an active force in daily commerce.
Consider the original purpose outlined in Bitcoin's white paper: to allow for direct, peer-to-peer transactions, to eliminate the need for any “trusted third party” in every casual exchange, from the smallest to the grandest. This is a vision of autonomy, of freedom—not from money itself but from the parasitic hands that skim from every transaction, from the walls that prevent value from moving freely. Bitcoin, as cash, was meant to live and breathe, moving through countless transactions, empowering the individual by replacing trust with verifiable, transparent cryptographic proof.
Yet Ammous would take this creation and cage it. He presents BTC not as an instrument of freedom, but as a relic, to be stored and hoarded, removed from circulation, stripped of its practical utility. His “Bitcoin Standard” encourages people to lock their BTC away in third-party exchanges—bucket shops that hold it on their behalf, for a fee, under rules they neither control nor truly understand. This is not freedom; it is abdication. Rather than being held by individuals, BTC under the Bitcoin Standard is trapped in institutional custody, vulnerable to seizure, regulation, and corruption by the very systems Bitcoin was designed to circumvent.
This system demands trust in those who hold the keys, who oversee the accounts, who act as gatekeepers to an asset that, by its design, should never require a gatekeeper. Instead of being used as cash, BTC becomes a speculative asset, controlled by intermediaries who wield power over users and whose interest lies in profit, not in individual empowerment. Under Ammous’s vision, BTC cannot be transacted freely or fluidly; it is bound by the whims of those intermediaries and the limitations they impose, making it inaccessible and unusable in the very manner that would make it digital cash.
The Bitcoin Standard renders BTC inert, frozen in speculation, divorced from its potential as a functioning medium of exchange. What Ammous promotes is not a currency, not digital cash, but a commodity locked in stasis, passive and dependent. He denies the fluidity that cash demands, transforming BTC into a fetish of wealth preservation, an asset meant to be held and admired from afar, but never touched, never used. In his world, BTC is not a tool of the individual; it is an artifact under institutional control, returned to the grasp of custodians who serve themselves before all others.
Ammous’s vision is a betrayal of Bitcoin’s purpose, a submission to the very forces it was designed to escape. He would have us believe that this passive, frozen asset is the culmination of Bitcoin’s promise. But in reality, it is a retreat—a cowardly acquiescence to the intermediaries and institutions that Bitcoin’s creator sought to render obsolete. BTC, as Ammous envisions it, is a prison, not a liberation. It is the antithesis of digital cash, a mockery of autonomy, a system designed not to free the individual, but to entangle them further in chains of institutional dependency.

The first paragraph of the Bitcoin white paper directly addresses a fundamental issue in electronic commerce: the inefficiency and costliness of processing small, casual transactions through third-party intermediaries.
The core problem is that the reliance on financial institutions as trusted third parties makes such transactions impractical. When intermediaries are involved, transaction costs increase, making low-value, everyday exchanges economically unviable. This issue forms the foundation of Bitcoin's purpose as outlined in the white paper.
Bitcoin's purpose, then, is to provide a system that facilitates small, casual transactions directly between parties without the need for trust in an intermediary. The idea is not simply to remove third parties but to do so in a way that specifically enables transactions that would otherwise be too costly or cumbersome due to fees and processing requirements associated with traditional financial systems.
Bitcoin achieves this purpose by creating a decentralized network that removes the need for trust in a central authority. Instead, it relies on cryptographic verification to enable transactions to occur directly between users at minimal cost, bypassing the expense and inefficiencies imposed by intermediaries. By eliminating the need for a trusted third party, Bitcoin makes low-value, frequent transactions feasible and economically practical, addressing the specific problem identified in the opening paragraph of the white paper.
In stark contrast to Bitcoin’s intended purpose of enabling small, casual transactions without intermediaries, BTC has evolved into something entirely different. High fees on the BTC network have rendered the system impractical for low-value exchanges, directly opposing the original vision laid out in the white paper. Instead of supporting direct, economical transactions, BTC’s fee structure forces users to seek alternatives for practical usability.
As a result, many users are compelled to store their BTC on third-party exchanges or "bucket shops," where they rely on centralised entities to facilitate transactions. This reliance on intermediaries for holding and managing funds reintroduces the very problems Bitcoin sought to solve: dependency on third parties, increased costs, and vulnerability to restrictions or failures of centralised systems. BTC, therefore, fails to meet the standard set by the original Bitcoin concept, as it can no longer function as a practical, peer-to-peer cash system for everyday transactions.

To block so-called "misinformation" is not merely a restriction on speech; it is a fundamental assault on the sanctity of the human mind.
When a society decides that certain ideas must be suppressed, it does more than censor words—it wages war on the process of thought itself.
The danger in attempting to “protect” people from misinformation lies in the arrogant presumption that a central authority can, or should, decide what is true and false on behalf of others.
Such a notion is anathema to reason, #freedom, and any society that values human integrity. The imposition of this authority does not protect the individual; it enslaves him.
Truth is not a static decree handed down by any authority, nor can it be pre-packaged and fed to a passive populace. It is a living process of discovery that requires the free interplay of ideas—challenged, questioned, and tested in the crucible of reason.
The moment a society begins to block ideas under the guise of preventing “misinformation,” it substitutes force for the mind’s natural faculty to discern and judge.
And this, fundamentally, is a violation of the individual’s right to think, to question, and to learn by his own rational means. To accept “truth” as dictated by authority is to abandon one’s own judgment, to forsake independence in favor of intellectual servitude.
What those who advocate for blocking misinformation fail to see—or perhaps see all too well—is that such censorship erodes the foundation of individual autonomy.
A government or institution that assumes the role of arbiter over truth claims the right to judge not only what is false, but also what is valid for the individual to know. In doing so, it undermines the very core of freedom.
This is not a safeguard; it is a method of control, one that paves the way for an authority that enforces obedience under the pretense of protecting society.
Such a system inevitably leads to the dominance of dogma over truth, for ideas that escape scrutiny by force will fester in darkness, unchallenged and unexamined.
To block misinformation is to imply that the individual is incapable of discerning truth for himself, that he must be “guided” by those who know better.
This is the path to a society of intellectual submission, where each person is expected to accept only what is deemed “acceptable.”
A mind forced into compliance with state-sanctioned ideas is a mind barred from exercising its highest function: the pursuit of knowledge.
In such a society, rational discourse gives way to sanctioned opinion, critical inquiry is replaced by unquestioning allegiance, and men cease to be thinkers—they become obedient followers.
The concept of blocking misinformation is fundamentally opposed to the very nature of truth.
Truth does not require protection from dissent; it thrives in the light of open debate, where it is exposed to the scrutiny of logic, evidence, and reason. To insulate it from challenge is to declare that truth cannot withstand examination, that it needs the bolstering of censorship. But this is a lie.
Truth is resilient, independent, and in no need of shelter.
Only lies fear exposure; only falsehoods cannot endure the piercing light of inquiry.
A society that values reason and individual autonomy must reject any form of censorship, particularly the guise of blocking “misinformation.”
The only proper response to error is more truth, not suppression. The only protection worth having is the freedom to think, to question, and to decide what is valid without interference.
Anything less is an abandonment of the intellect and an affront to the dignity of the individual mind.
