Vladimir Putin is a “radically rational” leader who is betting that Western countries will grow tired of backing Ukraine and agree a negotiated end to the conflict that will be favorable to Russia, former French President François Hollande told POLITICO.
"He [Putin] is a radically rational person, or a rationally radical person, as you like,” said the former French leader, when asked if Putin could seek to widen the conflict beyond Ukraine. “He has got his own reasoning and within that framework, he is ready to use force, "Hollande said.
Hollande added that Putin would seek to “consolidate his gains to stabilize the conflict, hoping that public opinion will get tired and that Europeans will fear escalation in order to bring up at that stage the prospect of a negotiation.”
This time the job of mediating is likely to fall to Turkey or China — “which won’t be reassuring for anyone,” Hollande said.

⚡️Ukrainian Law enforcement raids controversial ex-interior minister's home over helicopter crash that killed successor.
Avakov told Ukrainain media that the State Bureau of Investigation and Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) conducted the search concerning the Jan. 18 helicopter crash near Kyiv that killed Ukraine's Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky and nine other people on board.
According to the Ukrainian media outlet Babel, Avakov said the investigators searched through six-year-old contracts with the French company Airbus, which manufactured the H-225 Super Puma helicopter that was used to transport the officials when the crash happened.
Avakov said that “nothing” was found as the government and parliament had approved the paperwork before it came into effect.

⚡Ukrainian Armed Forces hit the Druzhba oil pipeline in Russia's Bryansk region.
There is no official information or comment from local authorities yet. According to the media, the missile fell near the Novozybkov pumping station, through which more than 33 million tons of oil pass annually, transiting through Belarus to Europe, bypassing Ukraine. The station itself was not significantly damaged.

Abandoned by his comrades in Kleshcheevka, a Ukrainian fighter said that during the mobilization he was promised service in the local military registration and enlistment office; instead, he was sent to the "Bakhmut meat grinder."
A serviceman of the 57th Motorized Rifle Brigade, Klimenko, without proper training, was thrown into the most difficult sector of the front. When the situation became critical, the unit commander left his subordinates and positions.
The Ukrainian is apologizing to his mother.
—Mom, I love you! Forgive me!
—What are you apologizing for?
—for going to serve. She didn't want to let me go. We were brought to Kleshchyevka and thrown into the field, and I don't know anything else; I don't know exactly where we were.
—Was the commander with you?
—There was some guy there; I do not know his name. He left this morning.
—and he didn't come back?
—No, he left us.

Israeli PM Netanyahu says considering military aid to Ukraine, mediation
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Wednesday he was considering military aid to Ukraine and was willing to serve as a mediator, following US calls for more active involvement.
Netanyahu made no firm commitments to Ukraine and Israel has preserved a relationship with Russia, which controls the skies in neighboring Syria and has turned a blind eye to Israeli strikes on targets of arch-nemesis Iran.
Netanyahu was asked in an interview with CNN if Israel could provide assistance to Ukraine such as Iron Dome, the US-backed technology that defends Israel from air attack.
“Well, I’m certainly looking into it,”Netanyahu said.
He confirmed that the United States has shifted a little-known stockpile of artillery it stations in Israel to Ukraine and he cast the Jewish state’s own operations against Iran as part of a similar effort.
“The US just took a huge chunk of Israel’s munitions and passed it on to Ukraine. Israel also, frankly, acts in ways that I will not itemize here against Iran’s weapons productions which are used against Ukraine,” he said.
Ukrainian and Western officials say Iran has sold low-cost drones to Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, although Tehran denies that.
Netanyahu said he was asked to mediate in an unofficial role after Russia invaded Ukraine in February but did not pursue it as he was then in opposition.
He said he was willing to mediate if asked by the parties and the United States.
“I’ve been around long enough to know that there has to be a right time and the right circumstances. If they arise, I’ll certainly consider it,” he said.
The remarks come after a visit by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who called for calm following a flare-up of violence between Israel and the Palestinians and also nudged Israel to boost support to Ukraine.
Using language familiar to Israelis, Blinken said Ukraine needs assistance “as it bravely defends its people and its very right to exist.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen told Blinken that he would travel to Ukraine to reopen his country’s embassy, the first such trip since the war.

❗️🇷🇺🇺🇦 Soledar direction
situation as of February 1, 2023, 17.00
🔻In the Soledar sector, the assault detachments of the PMC "Wagner" are cleaning up the village of Sakko and Vanzetti and the surrounding area, and have also come close to Nikolaevka, on the outskirts of which fighting is taking place.
▪️At the same time, the assault on the fortified area of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Paraskovievka and Krasnaya Gora continues, where, with the support of artillery, Russian troops are pushing through the defense. As a result of a massive strike on strongholds on the hills west of Blagodatny, more than a dozen members of Ukrainian formations were hit.
▪️One of the units of the 93rd mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, operating in the north of Bakhmut, was withdrawn to the Chernihiv region to restore combat capability. Of the 200 people, only 40 survived.
🔻In Bakhmut, the "Wagnerites" advanced from the meat processing plant to Pervaya Alabastrova Street, consolidated control in the area of the champagne factory, and also established control over two positions in Zabakhmutovka.
🔻In the south-west of Bakhmut, Russian units forced out the formations of the 3rd Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the forest area in the north-west of Kleshcheevka. Progress is also noted in the direction of Krasnoye.
Despite the significant success, at the moment, statements about the operational encirclement of Bakhmut are premature: the Armed Forces of Ukraine hold positions in this area, and there is still no control over the highway from Chasov Yar to Bakhmut.

🪖 There is NO operational encirclement of Bakhmut - Prigozhin
The Wagner Chief commented on the situation around Artemovsk (Bakhmut).
📝 "Let's not get confused, let's understand what a "mop-up" is and what an "operational encirclement" is." A sweep is done when a settlement is completely under your control. You need to check the residential sector, basements, and other places where the enemy could theoretically hide and then act as a DRG.
Operational encirclement occurs when all roads and routes of supply, evacuation, and any movement are under the enemy's fire control. As of today, there is no operational encirclement of Bakhmut. For operational reasons, this is usually not reported publicly. When the city is taken, you will certainly find out about it.

The Armed Forces allow the possibility of mobilizing limitedly fit men (service-restricted men).
"Those conscripts who are limitedly fit (in simpler words, disabled) for service in wartime can be mobilized, but their service will take place not in combat units but in military support units," said Roman Gorbach, head of the personnel department at the headquarters of the ground forces' command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
So, now the disabled Ukrainian men will be sent to the Donbass meat grinder

Destruction of Ukrainian air defense - what should be done?
Imagine that you are on a hunt. And now you see a bear coming towards you. You have a gun in your hands, it is useless to run, but instead of shooting you ... ask the bear to wait, take out your mobile phone and call the forestry to find out if you can shoot the bear. There, in turn, they ask to wait, and call their superiors. After half an hour they call you back - and you, having thanked the bear for waiting, take up the gun.
Sounds like absurdity? Yes. So, the air defense system is the same bear, and when confronted with it, the pilot does not have time for questions and conversations. Heard a message about exposure to the station - worked on it. No agreements, no conversations, otherwise, at best, he will simply disrupt the combat mission, and at worst, he will also bring down someone.
Minimum bureaucracy, maximum pilot initiative. If anything, we are now talking about people who have had the largest raid in the world over the past year. About people who have been fighting for a year, who have gone through fire and water. Trust them, they will do the right thing.
Second, but even more important, is communication. SAM hunting is a team sport and everyone has a role to play. Recall the Israeli operation of 82 years - some planes carried air targets, others - anti-radar missiles, others - guided bombs, fourth - conventional bombs, fifth - EW and RTV stations. And only by working together they were able to achieve such a result.
We have everything you need - planes, drones and Lancets.
Can we do the same? Yes, definitely. Even diverting crews to prepare an operation during the war is real. Sorry, but in the middle of last year they were already pulled off for exercises, but here you don’t even have to fly anywhere from your own airfield.
And after the suppression of air defense, the hunt for armored vehicles, artillery and warehouses will begin.

Putin ordered to "eliminate the possibility of shelling" of Russian territory.
"The priority task is to eliminate the very possibility of shelling. But this is the business of the military department," Putin said.
He also said that people in the regions of Russia bordering Ukraine face "very acute" problems such as the loss of houses, apartments, interruptions in the work of energy, heat and water supply.
Russia regularly accuses the Armed Forces of Ukraine of shelling border areas. Ukraine almost never confirms strikes on Russian territory.

📌 Successes of PMC "Wagner" in the Bakhmut and Soledar directions
▪️North of Soledar:
Units of the Wagner PMC are advancing towards Nikolaevka and Razdolovka from several directions. There are fierce battles in n. Sacco and Vanzetti.
▪️Bakhmut:
The musicians are fighting fierce battles in the south of the village of Paraskovievka and in the north of the village of Krasnaya Gora - the northern suburbs of Bakhmut. Reports of the liberation of these settlements turned out to be premature.
Under the control of PMC "Wagner" is a large part of the area "Meat Processing Plant" in the north-east of Bakhmut. The line of contact passes in the area of Alabastrova Street.
In the southeast, fighting is going on in the area of Garshin Street, the musicians' units have taken possession of the first buildings in the complex of houses between Vatutina Lane and Nekrasov Street.
The fighters of PMC "Wagner" expanded the zone of control in the south of Bakhmut from the side of Experienced.
▪️South of Bakhmut:
Developing the offensive from Kleshcheevka, the Orchestra is moving towards the Bakhmut-Konstantinovka highway, one of the supply lines for the local grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In parallel with this, there is an advance towards the village of Krasnoye (Ivanovskoye) and the southwestern regions of Bakhmut.
It is premature to talk about the operational environment, since the Armed Forces of Ukraine still have routes to Chasov Yar, Slavyansk, as well as an extensive network of field roads, which used to be used by agricultural machinery.
