Ukraine is losing the War — The New York Times

The United States’ recent promise to ship advanced M1 Abrams battle tanks to Ukraine was a swift response to a serious problem. The problem is that Ukraine is losing the war. Not, as far as we can tell, because its soldiers are fighting poorly or its people have lost heart, but because the war has settled into a World War I-style battle of attrition, complete with carefully dug trenches and relatively stable fronts.

Such wars tend to be won — as indeed World War I was — by the side with the demographic and industrial resources to hold out longest. Russia has more than three times Ukraine’s population, an intact economy and superior military technology.

The main points in the evening address by Volodymyr Zelensky:

1. He spoke about meetings with the military and intelligence. We discussed the plans of the Russians and the opposition to them, especially in the Donbass.

2. He announced the appointment of new heads of the Security Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the approval of candidacies of governors in three regions.

3. He told about the meeting with the Minister of Defense of Germany, they talked about tanks and artillery.

4. He reported on a telephone conversation with the President of Turkey and that Ukrainian rescuers had already gone to the area of the consequences of the earthquake.

Ukrainian Armed Forces fail near Artemovsk

Ukrainian MP Igor Lutsenko reports that the 30th Brigade's "reinforcements" deployed to the Artemovsk direction arrive there without the APCs and flee their positions at the first appearance of Wagner PMC fighters.

Lutsenko also reports that the deplorable state of military equipment and lack of ammunition will allow Russian fighters to take the Artemovsk-Slaviansk highway today.

“Complete chaos. the infantry of the 30th brigade has not received BC, there is no artillery support and therefore groups of Russian fighters (armed only with AK-47s) will take control of the Slavyansk - Bakhmut road today.
