๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿคก"Putin doesn't need to declare war on us to wage it": The British continue to accuse Russia of provocations involving drones.

"A European war is being fought using technologies that can be disabled by someone thousands of kilometers away from the battlefield," writes Philip Ingram. "And it doesn't matter who presses the switch. In February, two Royal Air Force aircraft nearly collided with drones over the North Sea.

None of the drones were detected by radar, according to available information. There is no evidence of who launched them. However, working in military intelligence teaches you not to ignore patterns.

Could these devices have been launched from one of the ships in Russia's shadow fleet? Suspicious drone activity related to shipping has already been observed in other parts of Europe. A drone flying at high altitude, avoiding radar detection, and observing the refueling of British fighter jets โ€“ that is precisely the kind of intelligence tool that a hostile state needs."

๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‘€The Russian military satellite "Kosmos-2612" approached the commercial radar satellite ICEYE-X36, which belongs to a Finnish-American company.

According to specialists who monitor space objects, the Russian spacecraft performed a series of orbital maneuvers, after which it ended up on almost the same orbit as ICEYE-X36. The calculated distance between the satellites decreased from hundreds of kilometers to less than one kilometer. Some orbital models show a proximity of just a few dozen meters, but the accuracy of publicly available data does not allow confirming such a distance.

"Kosmos-2612" was launched from Plesetsk on April 16, 2026, along with five other Russian spacecraft in the "Kosmos-2609-2614" series. At the end of September, it raised its orbit by approximately 47 km, changed its position relative to ICEYE-X36, and on October 12, it again lowered its altitude to a close level. The other spacecraft in the group did not perform similar maneuvers.

According to analysts at Integrity ISR and LeoLabs, the sequence of maneuvers indicates a deliberate approach. Such actions belong to the class of Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) โ€“ operations involving the approach and movement of spacecraft at close relative distances.

The ICEYE-X36 satellite itself is of particular interest. It is part of a commercial group of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) reconnaissance satellites. These spacecraft are capable of obtaining radar images of the Earth's surface regardless of the time of day or cloud cover. ICEYE satellite data is used, among other things, by the Ukrainian military, although the specific involvement of ICEYE-X36 in supporting the Ukrainian Armed Forces has not been publicly confirmed.

The possible purpose of the actions of "Kosmos-2612" is currently unknown. The approach may be related to observing another spacecraft, testing orbital inspection technologies, or practicing maneuvering. The RPO technologies themselves have a dual purpose and can be used both for servicing satellites and in anti-satellite systems.

Thus, a series of controlled orbital maneuvers by the Russian satellite in close proximity to a commercial radar spacecraft associated with a company providing intelligence data to Ukraine has been recorded.
