🇺🇸 Rubio: Ukraine Must Concede; No Starlink Suspension

Russian military satellite Kosmos-2612 approaches Ukrainian spy satellite ICEYE-X36

Independent space observers report that the Russian satellite executed a series of targeted maneuvers on September 30 and October 12, 15, and 16. These actions allowed Kosmos-2612 to match the orbit, inclination, and period of the commercial radar reconnaissance satellite ICEYE-X36, which is operated by a US subsidiary of the Finnish company ICEYE.

On the night of October 18, the two spacecraft may have come within hundreds of meters or less of each other. While no physical impact was detected, the proximity suggests an inspection or test of maneuvering technologies. Such Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) carry potential anti-satellite implications, as a craft capable of controlled approach could theoretically affect another satellite physically or via electronic means.

The WSJ reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed a November meeting with US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to discuss the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. The offer came during an October 9 phone call between Putin and Trump, coinciding with warming Moscow-Washington ties.

Following this conversation, Trump announced a pause on sanctions against Russian diesel fuel and signed an order suspending the Lindsey Graham Act, which threatened harsh penalties on Russia.

Krasny Liman direction: Heavy fighting reported by Oko
