With respect to SRBMs (short-range ballistic missiles) and the reason why Ukraine has no defence against them:

1) in addition to the different trajectory (a ballistic, i.e. a parabolic trajectory), whereby the missiles do not fly parallel to the surface, like cruise missiles, but come down in a steep downwards curve,

2) the key factor is the tremendous (in comparison to most common cruise missiles) terminal velocity of SRBMs, which is the velocity on the final approach to the target.

Gravity works in a ballistic missile’s favour, and it is what makes it such a potent weapon.

The terminal velocity of an SRBM like 9K720 Iskander, for instance is 2100–2600 m/s (Mach 6–7), making it hypersonic on approach to the target, whereas most common cruise missiles, like everyone’s favourite Kalibr, are pre-sonic. Cruise missiles avoid air defences and radar detection by flying low, maneuvering, and hugging the terrain. SRBMs have no need for this.

An ICBM is even faster, reaching a terminal velocity of 3.3 km/s.

That is also the reason why the most successful implementation of the American ABM system would see kinetic anti-ballistic missiles launched from a mobile sea platform in the theatre from where a launch is expected and destroy an ICBM when it’s most vulnerable and its velocity is smallest in magnitude (the missile is fighting gravity at that point)—at the take-off stage. Also the reason why the US NMD designs could never successfully challenge the enormous number of Russian ICBMs positioned in the heartland of the Russian territory.

Drones are flying massively across Ukraine.
As explained by a source, the strategy at the moment is the following one:
The first wave is on the closest targets at a distance of 100-200 km from the line of contact. 
These are arrivals in the Dnepropetrovsk, Kherson, Zaporozhie, Kharkov and Cherkasy regions. There are already hits in Dnepropetrovsk, most likely on the fuel and lubricants base/energy infrastructure.
The second wave is launched next, the purpose of which is to strike deep, then missiles on identified targets of air defence/radar stations, AFU aviation. The third wave of UAVs goes into a clean sweep and then possibly missiles again.

Now there is already information about UAVs in Kiev region. 

The attack is likely to be protracted.

It's official - Germany agreed to provide 14 Leopard-2 Main Battle Tanks to Ukraine, and allow Poland and Finland to donate similar numbers of the tank.

Many commentators are dismissive of this deal, saying a few dozen MBTs will make no difference, the AFU has insufficient trained personnel to use them effectively and no resources to maintain them. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said any western tanks delivered to Ukraine would "burn like all the others". To any pro-Russian observer this is all very reassuring.

Be certain however - the appearance of even a few dozen of these machines on the battlefield is a major development, and a threat which the Armed Forces of Russia takes very seriously.

A modern MBT is a heavily armed and armoured, network connected, autonomous, mobile battle station. The presence of just a few Leopard 2s can multiply the fighting power of an entire brigade, due to the weapons, sensors, communication and protection they bring.

MBTs such as the Leopard 2 are not easy targets to destroy. They cannot be destroyed by indirect fire - only direct hits by armour piercing weapons can stop them. We can use our own MBTs as tank killers but this will expose them and their crews to very high risk. We can attack from the air, however the enemy maintains effective point air defence so again this risks our precious aviation assets - both machines and personnel.

Infantry-operated anti-tank weapons are the final option. Any infantry soldier who has faced off against an enemy MBT and survived, knows how difficult and dangerous that mission is.

Just as Mr. Peskov promised, we will eventually burn every German tank which invades our land. Whatever the cost. Let's just not pretend it will be easy.

🔥 Soldiers of the assault detachments liberated the village of Opytnoye near Artemovsk

Russian soldiers liberated a strategically important settlement - the village of Opytnoye south of Artemovsk. From the north we entered Paraskovievka. The enemy equipped the front line of defense here, but the assault detachments of the Wagner PMC, with the support of artillery and anti-tank systems, broke into this stronghold.

The fighters passed through the industrial zone and entered Opytnoye, after which, house by house, they freed him from Ukrainian formations. The private sector (residential area) was full of militants. The published footage shows how the enemy tried to send reinforcements at night, but this attempt was stopped by accurate artillery fire. Now, Opytnoye is a springboard for an attack on Artemovsk.

“Russians? Not"

The chief executive of Matthias Warnig Nord Stream AG admitted that he does not consider Russia responsible for the explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines. However, he believes that one of the NATO countries is behind the sabotage. Warnig spoke about this in an interview with the German newspaper Die Zeit.

Explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines occurred in September 2022, when both Nord Stream 1 and one Nord Stream 2 strings were seriously damaged. The White House ruled out the involvement of NATO countries in the incident.

The European side was involved in the investigation of the terrorist attack, but the objectivity of the investigation is a big question. As of January 12, 2023, Sweden has not responded for several months to a request from the Russian government to involve Russia in the investigation of the sabotage.
