The Ukrainian military may face problems operating American Abrams tanks due to fuel requirements for them, Newsweek magazine reported.

According to the publication, despite the advantages of the Abrams, among which the publication singled out firepower and armor, these tanks consume a large amount of fuel due to the fact that they are equipped with gas turbine engines. At the same time, their standard type of fuel is aviation fuel.

Cornell University professor David Sibley noted that the consumption of Abrams tanks is from 3.6 to 7.1 liters of fuel per 1 km of track. “This means that Abrams needs a huge supply chain to constantly supply them with fuel. In this regard, they are worse than other Western tanks,” he stressed.

In addition, retired American Major John Spencer pointed out that "the supply of fuel in Ukraine is a problem in general, even when it comes to diesel fuel."

SAFE Boats International, a US-based boatbuilding company, reportedly took the first Mk VI patrol boat under construction for the Ukrainian Navy out of a boathouse and delivered it to its forward deployment base in Tacoma, Washington, in early January. In 2021, the US Department of Defense awarded SAFE Boats International three contracts to build a total of 10 Mk VI boats for Ukraine with US funding, although only eight Mk VIs were reportedly under construction (previously a total of 16 boats were to be built for Ukraine).
