Language is just as much a weapon as bombs and missiles. It is never truly neutral. It all depends on the background of the writer. In this case, the writer is a naturalized Japanese Unitarian of European, Sephardic Jewish, West African, and Native American ethnic origin raised in America with a Trinitarian Christian upbringing, but with higher education in Germany, America and Japan. His intellectual background is heavily influenced by Confucianism, Buddhism and Shintoism. He believes courtesy, not brutal honesty, is the most important social virtue and that respect is more important than love. He believes in doing his duty, but also believes that, only by having concern for others, will it be possible to do so. He believes that good and evil are two sides of the same sheet of paper, that no one is entirely good or bad, but can easily be both at the same time. He values religion, both his and others, as a believer in one universal creative force that is both everything and nothing, that is everywhere and nowhere at all times and never, and that, as a result, creation is constant and, with it, so is destruction.

The above confirmation bias might seem to have nothing to do with an article on language as a weapon. But, beneath the surface, it dictates every reaction the writer has to language, including language weaponization.

First, let's consider two words, "antisemitic" and "terrorist". Both words have legal definitions and entail legal punishments. Few people realize the importance of manmade law. Most people simply assume that both are naturally evil and deserve punishment.

But, the legal definition of antisemitic is not only automatic hatred of people with a Hebrew tribal identity or who practice this group's tribal religion, but also includes practically all criticism of the Zionist-created State of Israel. Any crime can be committed by the Zionist state, but if the Zionist state is criticized, depending on where a person lives, the person doing so will be open to legally imposed sanctions.

Terrorist seems less problematic, to be a word that has a common meaning everywhere. However, terrorists, too, are legally created creatures. It is law that decides whether an organization is a terrorist organization or not . It is, thus, by means of law that a person becomes a terrorist. It has nothing to do with personality or character. It is all merely a matter of creating propaganda value for nations and for their political convenience. It has no internationally accepted definition. As such, it deserves to die a natural death.

What is true of individuals and of nations is equally true of news organizations. Russian news organizations, for instance, are not always a neutral source of news about West Asia. Even quite large organizations have a tendency to consistently make Arab military activities look smaller than they really are. Also, they consistently sanitize Israeli actions through their choice of language. It sometimes seems difficult not to believe that these organizations have been infiltrated or paid off to be passively pro-Zionist.

But, what applies to Russia applies even more strongly in Europe and in North America. Here, there is no attempt at neutrality, as it could cause a journalist to lose a job and a main stream media outlet to be economically sabotaged. The lesson to be learned is that no information source is, in all cases, totally reliable, not even those associated with this article. After all, in the end, it is the writer's confirmation bias that decides how sources of information will evolve into an article.

So, reader beware. Truth is a never ending work in progress. It is something to be sought, but It is not a gift. It must always be worked at.
