THE AIPAC COUNTERATTACK ON KAMALA HARRIS HAS BEGUN

In today's Japanese market weekend edition of the New York times, a huge article analyzing Kamala Harris was carried. In typical New York Times fashion, unidentified sources were used to help build a picture of Mrs. Harris as being incompetent, difficult to work with, a poor manager, and possessing a mediocre record as Vice President. At no point was her position on stopping the war in Gaza and on establishing an internationally recognized Palestinian state mentioned. Rather than discuss political positions which might concern the office of president of the United States, the focus was on character assassination. This was followed by the New York Times within 24 hours by an online article that, at its end, cast doubt on her commitment to the Zionist political entity in Palestine.

On the other hand, CNN's first article was one of praise of Kamala Harris's Jewish husband, Douglas Emhoff, implying that, whatever her weaknesses are, she's got a strong, self-confident, man taking care of her. And, as her husband, he would be taking care of the country should she become president. NBC came out with a positive story of Mrs. Harris as a stepmother. In neither of these articles was there any word written of Mrs. Harris's ability, good or bad, to do the work of a president of the United States. Taken together with CNN coverage, this would seem to be setting the tone for future media coverage of her campaign, suggesting that mainstream media will focus on making her look inconsequential and unpresidential.

As for Mr. Emhoff, before Mrs. Harris became the prospective Democratic Party candidate for president, his approach to the problem of antisemitism in the United States was nuanced. In a somewhat round about way he was advocating the idea that being ethnically Hebrew or religiously Jewish did not automatically mean that a person identified himself or herself with the actions of the Zionist Hebrew political entity in Palestine. This suggested that he was advocating more nuance in viewing things. Indirectly, he was saying that it was possible to support the existence of this political entity while condemning its actions. And this seems to be the position Mrs. Harris began taking several months ago, though, as Vice President, her opinions did not matter. As of yesterday, Mr. Emhoff has felt it necessary to make a public statement emphasizing his wife's commitment to the continued existence of Israel and of its right to defend itself, which, depending on a person's ideological perspective, can include the right to commit genocide.

What is clear is that, considering the impact Mr. Emhoff is capable of making as a fluent, well-educated, self-confident speaker and considering his Judaic background and the loyalty that he, his two daughters, and his ex-wife are all exhibiting to Mrs. Harris, AIPAC is beginning its attack on Mrs. Harris in a carefully calibrated manner. Short of a humiliating withdrawal of her position on a ceasefire in Gaza and the establishment of a Palestinian state, the campaign against her by AIPAC will not end, but will become increasingly harsher as time goes on. Mr. Netanyahu, after all, is betting everything on a Trump electoral victory and, one way or other, will get his pound of flesh for the impertinence of Mrs. Harris not attending his congressional address and then afterwards telling him what she expected of him.

So, get ready for some blood on the floor. Whether figurative in the sense of a character assassination or actual in the form of a campaign accident, this will not be the end of things. We can easily predict the color of the future and the color is red.

◾ Ukrainian Nazis are touring the European Union in search for funding and new recruits, the events have been so far cancelled in some countries and police have started an investigation, some other "democratic" nations of the EU have allowed the far right Azov Battalion to carry on their activities:

The event was scheduled to take place on 28 July in the municipality of Ganshoren. The Third Ukrainian Assault Brigade – connected to the Azov Battalion with neo-Nazi affiliations – is currently touring around Europe, hosting information evenings and encouraging Ukrainians to conscript.

The events are organised in tandem with the NGO Promote Ukraine but after venues in Berlin, Hamburg, Rotterdam and now Brussels pulled out, several sessions have been unable to go ahead.

Two sessions have gone ahead in Poland on Monday and Tuesday and two more will take place in the Czech Republic and Lithuania.
