Dear WIUT Students,
As WIUT Administration receives your questions and concerns regarding the tuition fee for the next academic year (2018-2019) I would like to clarify some points on this matter.
As you may know, According to the WIUT's Founding Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers dated of 16.01.2002, WIUT operates on full self-financing basis. It implies that all operational and development financial resources are accumulated through student fees and there is no other source of income or subsidy to the University. The financial resources which University accumulates are spent for operational costs such as maintenance of all facilities including campus buildings and dormitories; health/safety and security costs; books and other learning materials purchase/subscription to electronic learning resources; all utility costs (including internet access, electricity, heating, water and gas supply and many others); academic administration costs; repair and reconstruction works; infrastructure development and support costs; staff salaries/social support and taxation (around 450 staff members); staff professional (academic and research) development; contractual payments to the University of Westminster (London) for provision of academic and other services to WIUT.
WIUT also uses its financial resources to cover over 120 full cost Scholarships for Foundation and Undergraduate students.
As you may also be aware, the tuition fee in WIUT for Foundation and Undergraduate Courses was for long time equal to USD 5220, but since September 5, 2017 as a social support for students, WIUT Executive Board decided to fix the amount of the tuition fee for the current academic year (2017-2018) at the level of 21 950 000 Uzbek Soums. However, increased operational expenses of WIUT are seriously influencing its financial performance.
Therefore, in order to sustain WIUT’s financial sustainability and its further development Executive Board has approved the students’ tuition fees for 2018-19 academic year at a level of 249,950 soum per credit (29,994,000 soum per 120 credits).
At the same time, WIUT’s Administration is keen to support students who may have difficulties with paying the fee in a single instalment, and therefore, following options are available to support students:
1.Your tuition fee can be paid in a number of instalments (up to 12) on a monthly basis. If full tuition fee paid in 12 months, your monthly instalment for 120 credits will be 2,499,500 soum per month.
2.Tuition fee payments can be done quarterly starting from April 2018 until the end of March 2019. For example for 60 credits in one semester amount can be paid in 4 instalments (25%) – which equals to 3,749,250 soum per 8 instalment months.
3. In exceptional cases you can suggest individual monthly schedule of payments which suits your financial conditions. In this case you could arrange payment schedule based on your own circumstances, within next 12 months.
In order to provide detailed responses to your questions regarding the above mentioned matters we would like to invite you to Q&A session today April 6, at 5 p.m. in ATB 306 (Harvard room) and if needed tomorrow April 7, at 11 a.m. in the same location.
You can also send your questions to Alisher Khasanov (akhasanov@wiut.uz)
Best Regards,
WIUT Administration.

Dear Students and Colleagues
I would like to make a few comments about the fee level set by Westminster International University in Tashkent(WIUT)for the academic year 2018/19. I understand that this is a sensitive issue but WIUT as a financially independent institution needs to be able to support the continuous development of the student experience. All of WIUT’s funds goes to support the universities activities and it needs to be financially healthy.
The University of Westminster has been the exclusive partner and founder of WIUT since its establishment in 2002 and I have been the 1st Deputy Rector since 2002. In 2002 the Tuition fee was $4,800. After 16 years it is now at the equivalent of $3,694, a substantial fall in real terms. The fee was increased to $5,200 in 2011 to reflect the economic challenges in Uzbekistan. The fee remained at this level in $ terms until in 2017 when the Government open the convertibility of the Uzbek Soum then WIUT announced a the fee in Soums at the previous rate of $1 to 4,100 Soums not the new market rate of 8,000 soums. I and WIUT colleagues understood that the fee had to be kept at a socially realistic level.
WIUT however has been and has to be financially sound and independent of funds from other sources including the Government Budget. The new fee is recognising that conditions in Uzbekistan are changing and WIUT has to be able to meet its financial obligations. It has been set after much discussion with myself and senior colleagues. The new Fee enables the university to break even, using all its funds to support the student experience and quality of Education. In real terms is remains at a lower level than when WIUT was founded in 2002.
I can assure all stakeholders and students of WIUT that the University is committed to enable a broad range of students to engage in the WIUT experience and that experience is second to none in terms of Quality.
Thank you for reading
Regards
Alan
