OPINION PIECE: Apparently Kilbride army camp is not the place to be. Certainly if you are from Afghanistan, Zimbabwe or Algeria it will have failed to meet your expectations. Firstly it is claimed to be remote, it is seven miles from the tram stop at Tallaght, a full twenty minutes by bus. It is also cold. You can understand that as the residents are from a warmer climate but they did choose to come here after all . The residents were so upset that they were planning to go to the Dail to protest but they didn’t have to, the Dail came to them in the form of specially arranged meetings and seminars with ‘customer service representatives’ and ‘resident welfare teams’. They are still not happy and the plan is to move them out to tented accommodation in a more populated area and move others who are currently sleeping on the streets into Kilbride. As usual as per government policy no Irish need apply. It is worth pointing out that nobody from Afghanistan, Zimbabwe or Algeria is fleeing a war. There is simply no war in these places or adjoining countries. At this point that pretence is not even offered as an excuse, we all know the truth and the Department of Integrations policy based on desperation is to dump unvetted migrants into any accommodation anywhere that they can get away with. When the Department of Integration was asked by way of a parliamentary question as to who exactly operates Kilbride they replied that they could not disclose that as the information was ‘commercially sensitive’. It is taxpayers money and those operating kilbride should not be able to hide in the shadows of secrecy. Versions of Kilbride are now to be found all over Ireland, about 125 of them. Fifty were existing at the beginning of this year and seventy five have been opened since the beginning of the year. These accommodate over 21,000 migrants in addition to almost 100,000 Ukrainians in different accommodation. But now the accommodation has ran out. Communities are more vigilant, more alert to the dangers of allowing migrants into their communities. People now know not to trust the government or the Department of Integration. Promises of consultation are empty promises. Again and again busses have dumped migrants into peaceful communities as ‘consultation’ was occurring. Government strategy is to ‘keep them talking’ while the accommodation is being readied and suddenly, usually in the middle of the night the busses arrive with the undocumented and the unvetted. As often said before on this channel, this is the government against the people. And when government is mentioned the supportive fake opposition like Sinn Fein must be called out as well. But the stakes are getting higher and now communities are getting the upper hand, are beginning to have a real effect in slowing down government policy. From Glendalough to Cashel to Rosslare to Dromahair people have fought back successfully. Over one hundred undocumented migrants will be sleeping rough on the streets tonight, people trafficked here with false promises of accommodation. Nor trafficked by criminal gangs but trafficked by a criminal government who shows no regard for the international obligation of accommodating people humanely. At some point our borders must be closed. If you arrive without a passport you must be sent back on the return flight as would happen to you or I arriving at a destination having lost a passport. One law for all equally applied, this is only fair. Meanwhile the government is looking for tents for Kilbride migrants so that the rough sleeping migrants can be sent there until the next bunch arrive, about 35 each day. What then, there is no game plan except desperation solved by deceit. Stop government inhumanity now and close our borders before further misery is inflicted on migrants and peaceful communities.
