Так что не могло быть у них никаких шевронов.

Военный флот во Франции начал формироваться только при знаменитом кардинале Ришельё, но в это время уже однозначно существовали военные нашивки , только во Франции их называли вовсе не « шеврон », а словом «galon», которые мы и переняли в своё время в русский язык.

Кстати, морские офицеры в качестве знаков отличия носили не нашивки даже, а золотые эполеты . Они ярко блестели на солнце и были очень заметны в абордаж. Поэтому противнику всегда было легко целиться в офицера. По этой причине морские офицеры отстёгивали свои эполеты и сражались без знаков отличия, разве что повязывали на руку белый шарф . Так вот, в Средние века шевроны получили большое распространение в разных государствах. Практически все войска, имеющие форму, имели и шевроны . Например, знаменитый мушкетёрский полк.
