Why are white blood cells elevated and what to do about it

White blood cells are an essential part of the immune system. They are the white blood cells that help the body fight various diseases-from viral and bacterial infections to cancerous tumors.

The process is simple: as soon as the immune system encounters a threat, the first thing it does is send a signal to the bone marrow to produce more white blood cells to fight off the disease. The level of white blood cells in the blood increases dramatically. This increase is called leukocytosis by doctors.
