""Übü. Übermut" - [yby.ˈyːbɐˌmuːt] - is a cover version of "Ubu Noir", the first track on the Coil CD / LP Scatology (1985). The enigmatic jazz-like recording by Coil was inspired by the absurd theatre play "Ubu Roi" (1896) by the French writer Alfred Jarry about an anti-hero named Francois Ubu who stages a coup d´etat to come to power but very soon starts acting like a decadent and reckless tyrann in an absurd absolutism. The surrealist play is a criticism of ideologies that in power all too soon turn out to become intolerant totalitarian systems. "Noir", the French word for black, definitely refers to the Black Sun, an essential occult and surreal symbol that was used by Coil frequently. The Austrian project Allerseelen chose as title for their remake - that turned out quite different from the original - the play on words "Übü. Übermut". "Übü" [yby] is the "Eindeutschung" (Germanization) of Ubu. As this sounds close to the German word "über" (over), the German word "Übermut" [ˈyːbɐˌmuːt] was used as second part of the title. While "Mut" means braveness in the real world, "Übermut" already is an enthusiastic, euphoric courage with a certain surrealist quality close to the "Tollkühnheit" (bravado, foolhardiness) of the Spanish hero Don Quixote. Marcel P., co-founder of projects like Miel Noir and many others, has been for many years member of Allerseelen, in studio as well as in dozens of countries on stage. The original songs of the Allerseelen CD Abenteuerliches Herz, I - XIV, were mastered by Marcel P. at his Dungeon Studio (Rhenania). He played also bass for the song Roter Faden (Red Thread) with vocals by Frank M. (Orplid) which is one of the bonus tracks on the DoLP. (The exclusive new songs XV - XIX were mastered by Purity Through Fire.)
