Can both ovaries release an egg at the same time during menstrual cycle?
Only one ovulation can happen per cycle. You can, however, ovulate two (or more) eggs at the same time. When this happens, there is the potential to conceive fraternal (non-identical) twins if both eggs are fertilized. But having two separate eggs released at different times within the same cycle doesn't happen.

There Are 7,100+ Islands in the Philippines.
The Archipelago of the Philippines is made up of 7,641 islands — several hundred more than the 7,107 islands scientists previously believed the country contained.
The southern Pacific islands were named for King Philip II of Spain. The country's largest island is Luzon, spanning 42,458 square miles.

Sudan Has More Ancient Pyramids Than Egypt
Egypt's Pyramids of Giza may be considered one of the wonders of the world, but Sudan has nearly twice the number of pyramids. Sudan touts 200-255 known pyramids, built for the Kushite kingdoms of Nubia, compared to Egypt's relatively paltry 138 pyramids.
Within the Sahara, you can still visit the ancient and reconstructed pyramids of Meroe.

How do Batteries get charged?
Inside each cell, chemical reactions take place involving the two electrical terminals (or electrodes) and a chemical known as the electrolyte that separate them. The good news is that if you're using a rechargeable battery, you can make the chemical reactions run in reverse using a battery charger.
Generally all smartphones we use contains lithium ion batteries.
A lithium-ion battery or Li-ion battery is a type of rechargeable battery in which lithium ions move from the negative electrode to the positive electrode during discharge and back when charging.

What is a Meteor Shower?
A meteor shower occurs when lots of meteoroids enter the Earth’s atmosphere. Meteoroids are bits of dust and rock from comets that are released when their orbit brings them close to the Sun. The Sun’s heat boils off some of the comet’s icy surface and the resulting debris then trails it in orbit. Meteoroids that enter the Earth’s atmosphere are known as meteors, and can regularly be seen travelling across the night sky. However, several times each year, the Earth’s orbit crosses with the orbit of a comet causing it to collide with a bunch of meteoroids all at once. As they are usually very small, most meteors burn up in the atmosphere before they reach the Earth’s surface, but those that do occasionally hit the ground are known as meteorites.

Why do spiders sometimes stay still for a long time?
Web-spinning spiders obviously remain motionless while they are waiting for something to land in their web. Moving around wastes energy and draws attention to the spider, which makes it more likely to be eaten by birds, and makes flies less likely to get caught in the web.
Spinning a web is quite an energy-intensive process and a spider may have to wait days or weeks for a catch, so it is important to conserve as much energy as possible. Hunting spiders are much more active, but many of them are nocturnal predators and spend the day tucked away in a nest or under a rock - again, this is to conserve energy and avoid becoming prey.

Why do we develop Gout?
Excessive levels of uric acid in the blood cause gout. We produce uric acid as a waste product from digesting protein. In a healthy person, uric acid is removed by the kidneys and excreted as a dilute solution (urine). But if your kidney function is impaired, the concentration rises to the point where it precipitates as monosodium urate crystals. These normally form in the joints of your toes, because your feet are cooler and cold temperatures reduce the solubility of uric acid. Gout is partly genetic, but exacerbated by excessive drinking – particularly beer – and not enough exercise.

Where do the biggest dust storms occur?
Mars is home to the largest and most powerful dust storms ever recorded. Martian dust storms have been known to engulf the entire planet in a haze for months at a time, making it difficult to single out one as being the biggest. Dust and sandstorms on Mars and Earth happen due to temperature differences in the atmosphere. Hot air moves to colder air, and this moving air can pick up tiny debris in arid landscapes. It is not known exactly why storms on Mars can spread so far, however the fact it is such a dusty world probably has something to do with it.

Why alcohol is added in thermometer?
Ethanol-filled thermometers are used in preference to mercury for meteorological measurements of minimum temperatures and can be used down to −70 °C (-94 °F). The physical limitation of the ability of a thermometer to measure low temperature is the freezing point of the liquid used.

How do insects survive winter?
In order to survive winter, insects push the pause button, actually the diapause button.
During diapause an insect's metabolic rate drops to one tenth or less, so it can use stored body fat to survive winter. Also many insects produce alcohols for antifreeze. Their bodies can supercool (reach temperatures below freezing) without forming cell-damaging ice.

How Does Anesthesia Work?
Local anesthetics block the nerves that connect a particular body part or region to the brain, preventing the nerves from carrying pain signals to your brain. This renders patients unconscious with no perception or memory of the surgery (though pain from the surgical procedure will be apparent once you wake up).

How does light travel down a fibre-optic cable?
At the core of the cable is a strand of plastic or pure optical glass about 0.01mm in diameter. Surrounding it is a highly reflective cladding with a different refractive index to that of the core. The refractive indices of each material are engineered to ensure that light always reflects back off the cladding and is never absorbed by it, regardless of whether the cable is straight or bent round. It's a bit like carrying a torch through a long winding tunnel lined with perfect mirrors.

What are ocean dead zones?
Dead zones get their name from the fact that they can support very few plants and animals. This is due to the absence of oxygen, known as ‘hypoxia’. Hypoxic conditions can materialise in lakes and other standing bodies of water, but they can also occur in large areas of the ocean. The main cause of a dead zone is eutrophication – when minerals, usually of agricultural origin, are washed into the water. The heightened nutrient levels stimulate huge blooms of algae on the surface of the water. This then restricts oxygen making its way into the water, which eff ectively smothers everything living beneath it. Due to the agricultural nature of the nutrient runoff , dead zones often appear close to the shore. There are around 146 known coastal dead zones around the world, with the largest ones located in the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.

Can a Snail survive if its shell is broken?
Yes, provided that the damage isn’t too severe. Snailskeep a store of calcium in their bodies, in the form of dissolved salts, that they can mobilise for repair jobs. Special cells, called amoebocytes, will congregate around the crack and form a living elastoplast to hold the broken edges together. Over the course of a week or two, these cells are infused with calcium and gradually harden. In the case of more drastic repairs, the snail may actually borrow calcium from the rest of the shell by slightly thinning the walls from inside, to provide enough building material. While a snail is repairing its shell, it is much more vulnerable to predators and drying out, so it will stop eating and hide away. The snail’s survival depends on whether it can repair the damage before it dies of desiccation, hunger or infection.

What is Electric Blanket?
An electric blanket is a bed covering with a built-in heating element so that a sleeper can maintain a desired temperature even in a cold room. Many consumers prefer electric blankets because their use can reduce home heating costs. The sophisticated temperature controls of modern electric blankets can sense changes in skin and air temperature and adjust settings accordingly. The most advanced model blankets are programmable, so they can pre-warm the bed at a certain time and shut off at a certain hour. They are also able to adjust temperature for the needs of two people in the same bed. Some blankets even compensate for the different heat needs of different parts of the body; for instance, sending more heat to the sleeper's feet while leaving the head area cooler. Approximately 4.5 million electric blankets are sold in the United States annually.
