—🇧🇬 NEW: Bulgarian PM Rumen Radev announced that the European Commission is expected to launch an excessive deficit procedure against Bulgaria, with a formal report scheduled for June 3.
➡️ The procedure follows a breach of the EU’s mandatory 3% budget deficit threshold, threatening the country with closer monitoring and potential financial sanctions.
➡️ Radev sharply criticized past governance, stating, "This year the deficit will be even greater. The bubble has burst," blaming the crisis on populism and incompetence.
➡️ Previous administrations are accused of manipulating data and misrepresenting reports to rush Euro adoption for political and personal gain.

—❗️🇭🇷 /🇧🇦 NEW: The president of Croatia's right-wing Homeland Movement party, Ivan Penava, has threatened to establish Herceg-Bosna if the rights of ethnic Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina are not respected.
➡️ According to media reports, the party has issued an ultimatum to Croatian PM Andrej Plenković demanding the creation of a distinct Croatian electoral unit within Bosnia and Herzegovina.
➡️ If the proposal is rejected, the party is reportedly prepared to demand the restoration of Herceg-Bosna or its historical borders.
➡️ The ultimatum carries severe political weight in Zagreb, as the Homeland Movement is a critical member of the ruling coalition, without which the Plenković government cannot maintain its majority.

—🇦🇱 /🇽🇰 NEW: Albania’s FM Ferit Hoxha declared during a visit to Prishtina that Kosova remains the absolute priority of Tirana's foreign policy.
➡️ Reaffirming a previous warning by PM Edi Rama, Hoxha stated that "whoever touches Kosova touches Albania," emphasizing that Kosova's security remains vital for both the region and Europe.
➡️ Hoxha also dismissed reported attempts by pro-Serbian political groups, particularly in Montenegro, to challenge the recognition of Kosova’s independence, calling its sovereignty "irreversible" and warning that such behavior will not be tolerated.
➡️ The FM added that he has received direct assurances from Podgorica that Montenegro will not alter its relationship with Kosova under any circumstances.

#BREAKING | 🇭🇺 🇺🇦 — Hungary and Ukraine have reached a comprehensive agreement on minority rights for the approximately 100,000-strong Hungarian community in Transcarpathia.

The deal covers key areas including language use, education, culture, and political participation. Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar described the accord as an achievement that the previous Orbán government failed to secure over a decade.
In exchange, Hungary will support the opening of Ukraine’s first EU accession negotiation cluster (Fundamentals), removing a major obstacle that had stalled Kyiv’s EU path for over two years. The move is expected to enable formal advancement, potentially as early as mid-June.

Why Saint Michael?
We chose the figure of Saint Michael as the symbol of Eastern European Spectator because few images capture the spirit of the region better.
Across Eastern Europe, Saint Michael has long been associated with protection, courage, resistance, and the defence of order against chaos. Not only as a religious figure, but as a wider cultural symbol present across different nations, traditions, and historical memories.
For us, his image represents vigilance, strength, and clarity in a region where power, borders, identity, and history are constantly being tested.
Eastern European Spectator will not be a religious channel, nor a political project. But its symbol reflects what we want this channel to be: alert, serious, rooted in history, and focused on understanding the forces shaping Eastern Europe.
A guardian figure for a region that has always stood at the edge of empires.
