#BREAKING | ๐ช๐ธ ๐ช๐บ โ Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sรกnchez has formally written to EU institutions in Brussels, criticizing the response of some member states to the recent mass migrant influx into Ceuta and calling for an emergency meeting of the blocโs interior ministers.
The Global Eye | Subscribe
The move follows the entry of nearly 50,000 illegal migrants into the Spanish North African enclave over roughly 48 hours, most of whom have since returned to Morocco. Several EU countries had voiced sharp criticism of Spainโs border management and moved to tighten controls.

โ๐ฒ๐ฆ /๐ช๐ธ Why Morocco claims Ceuta and Melilla โ and why Spain rejects the claim
Morocco considers Ceuta and Melilla remnants of European colonial rule on African territory. Rabat argues that their geographical location on the Moroccan coast, their historical links to North Africa and the principle of territorial integrity support their eventual incorporation into Morocco. Since gaining independence in 1956, Morocco has periodically raised the issue internationally and in 1975 formally asked the UN decolonisation committee to classify the cities and other Spanish-held territories as non-self-governing territories.
Spain maintains that Ceuta and Melilla are not colonies but integral parts of the Spanish state, with the same constitutional status as its other autonomous territories. Madrid stresses that Spanish sovereignty predates the establishment of modern Morocco: Portugal captured Ceuta in 1415, with the city later becoming Spanish, while Melilla came under Spanish control in 1497. Spain also points to subsequent treaties, continuous administration and the political rights and Spanish citizenship of the citiesโ inhabitants.
The United Nations does not currently include Ceuta or Melilla on its list of non-self-governing territories, meaning they are not formally treated by the UN as territories awaiting decolonisation. Morocco nevertheless continues to view the dispute through an anti-colonial and territorial-integrity framework, while Spain regards its sovereignty as legally established and non-negotiable.

โToday, we have reached a very special milestone: we are now 5000 friends in the channel
Balkan Spectator began its journey two years ago, in the summer of 2024. The channel has gone through a lot since. Even a name change, because originally this channel was called Balkangrad, then changed to its current name.
Two years after, Balkan Spectator has its own name, brand and character. People who follow us don't do so just because of what we tell, but because of how we tell it.
Little by little, Balkan Spectator has built its own identity, and such an identity is represented by each one of you who follow and engage with the channel. There is an actual community taking shape here.
Additionally, there is a very important thing we need to remember: from now, we are entering terra incognita. No Balkan news channel has ever reached 5000 people.
Wallachian Gazette, at some point, could have reached that number, but the channel doesn't exist anymore and the last figure I have is around 4800 subscribers.
So, from now, with every new subscriber, Balkan Spectator is making History. We are now exploring where the roof is. We are going to discover how many people a Balkan news channel is able to gather.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Your support, your suggestions, your comments, and the information you send us every day are what make this project possible.
The best is yet to come.
