Greece’s Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense (KYSEA) is expected to approve a €3 billion ($3.42 billion) procurement of Israeli air and missile defense systems on Thursday.

The deal will launch the multi-layered “Achilles’ Shield” network, featuring Rafael’s SPYDER, David’s Sling, and Barak MX systems. The architecture is designed to counter drones, aircraft, cruise missiles, and ballistic threats, and will integrate with existing Patriot batteries, F-35s, F-16s, and naval assets.

Greek industry is set to take on approximately 25% of the work, covering command systems, maintenance, and production elements.

A 37-year-old Palestinian man from Gaza was arrested in early June on the island of Crete. Investigators say he acquired chemical agents that could be used to manufacture explosives and had received bomb-making training abroad. He faces terrorism-related charges; the probe remains ongoing.

Authorities state the plot, if carried out, could have caused a mass-casualty attack against civilians on the vessel.

This morning, at 8:30 a.m., a new drone was shot down in Romanian airspace, 10 km west of the locality of Sfântu Gheorghe (Delta). The drone was shot down by a Romanian pilot from an F-16 aircraft.

According to the investigation conducted by the General Prosecutor's Office, the drone shot down on Friday morning is of the Shahed type, used by the Russian Federation in the war of aggression against Ukraine.
Investigations into the drones shot down yesterday and today are ongoing.

Romania's diplomatic protest against the Russian Federation will be based on these investigations.

It is inadmissible and intolerable for the Russian Federation to continue violating Romania's airspace, which is, at the same time, NATO airspace and European Union airspace. Such actions are unacceptable, and we treat them with the utmost seriousness, alongside our allies.
