Defense Minister Israel Katz has stated that Israel aims to develop true space-to-ground attack capabilities and become a global leader in this domain. The broader multiyear effort also covers improved satellites, encrypted communications, cyberwarfare tools, and enhanced missile defense.

One concept referenced draws from the U.S. “Rods from God” (Project Thor) idea of satellites releasing dense tungsten rods that re-enter the atmosphere at extreme speeds to deliver bunker-busting kinetic impacts without nuclear explosives. Physics support the concept, though cost, payload weight, and overall effectiveness present significant hurdles.

Israel is considering roughly 16 billion shekels (about $5.4 billion) in space-related investment over a decade, though funding has not yet been finalized.
