The Australian government formally condemned the violence of security forces against protesters in Iran. The statement comes in wake of recent unrest that reportedly saw one of the heaviest public protests in recent years, killing at least seven people.

According to RadioShat, based on reports, anti-government protests that started in Tehran have now spread to other provinces of the country.

The protests began on Friday with marketers striking in the capital over a sharp depreciation of the national currency on December 29, quickly turned into a widespread move against the authoritarian rule. Protesters accuse the government of widespread corruption, economic mismanagement and inability to manage vital resources like water.

The Australian government will continue to defend the human rights of the Iranian people in an official statement, the spokesman of the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said. Australia condemns the violence of Iranian officials and asks the Islamic Republic to respect the rights of peaceful protesters. "

Following this statement, it was emphasized: "We have always raised our concerns about human rights violations, instability in the Middle East and foreign interference directly to Iranian authorities." "

The statement also mentions the Albanian government's decisive actions towards Iran, including strengthening Australia's sanctions framework aimed at sanctioning individuals and organisations involved in domestic repression.
