На читке Мег Райан предложила изобразить оргазм в этой сцене. Режиссёру эта идея однозначно понравилась. Они решили, что если она собирается это сделать, то это должно быть публичное место, например, в магазине деликатесов.
Если это происходит в ресторане, добавил Билли Кристал, то один из посетителей может высказаться вслед этому симулированному оргазму, типа: “I’ll have what she’s having.” («Я возьму то же, что и она»).
Это была кульминация и без того культовой сцены, если таковая вообще существует.
Но кто бы это сказал?
Райнер (режиссёр фильма уже знал. Он обещал кому-то особенному роль в фильме. Она уже должна была появиться в этой сцене в качестве второстепенного персонажа, поэтому ему было очень легко сказать:
