A form of affected refusal — pretending to decline something you actually want.
It’s a type of feigned modesty.
A person who is offered the last slice of cake and says, "Oh no, I couldn't possibly eat another bite," while secretly wanting it, is using accismus.
Examples:
She insisted she didn’t want a birthday party, but her excitement later revealed her accismus.
He acted uninterested in the offer, but his accismus fooled no one.
