I’m not sure why, but this quote got me thinking that no matter how depressingly ugly our current society may seem, no matter how difficult it is to stand up for the truth and to live a good life within it, there have been countless men and women throughout history who managed to do so in the face of far worse. There is always someone who has suffered more for what’s right than we have or ever will, and who has done so with more nobility, courage and grace. This thought humbles and encourages me a lot.

Yesterday, Martin had to attend a meeting in Germany. He left the meeting around 9pm and drove the whole night in order to be home in Vienna when I woke up, surprising me with a bouquet of flowers, because today is a very special day. Our one-year wedding anniversary.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year. Looking back to our wedding day, and even further back to the day we met in Sicily three years ago, I’m overwhelmed with a number of feelings, but most of all gratefulness. I don’t know what I did to deserve such a loving, courageous, idealistic and loyal man. For all those who know him—not via media lies—but in person, you understand what I mean when I say he’s a giant among men, somehow capable of leading hundreds and inspiring thousands, even in the face of unremitting attacks from the state, media, politicians and ideologically-opposed activists.

While I’m grateful for the last three years with Martin, I want and hope for at least fifty more. And somewhere in between, I also hope for a family should God decide to grant us one. In the end, no matter what, amor vincit omnia.

This is outrageously unjust, evil and demented. Child abuse.
