πŸ† Sticker App Contest

Status: Results announced

Among other things, today we launched a platform for third-party apps that allow users to create stickers for Telegram (check out the docs).

We'd like to announce a competition for developers: create an Android or iOS app that helps users easily create unique stickers and submit it to @ContestBot before July 4, 23:59 Dubai time.

You can use any idea or design for your app, provided the app is user friendly and gives users an easy way to create new custom stickers for Telegram. The apps can create static or animated stickers (although apps that create animated stickers will be considered more advanced and may get higher prizes). For example, one can create an app that allows users to upload their own photos and add text on top. The app can automatically remove the backgrounds, apply fun effects and import the result to Telegram as stickers.

We will distribute a $50,000 prize budget among the winners. The best part: contestants will retain all rights for the apps they create, so they will be able to launch their apps as independent startups and potentially monetize them.

Dates: 8 Sept - 8 Nov 9 Nov (23:59 Dubai time)
Prize fund: $50,000
Who can take part: Everyone! Even if you didn't participate in Round 1.

The task is similar: create between 10 and 100 GIF-style reaction videos (examples here) that express emotions similar to these emoji:

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜˜πŸ‘πŸ˜¨πŸ‘‹
😍😑πŸ₯³πŸ˜³πŸ™„
πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ˜πŸ₯ΊπŸ˜
πŸ€¦πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈπŸ˜πŸ€”πŸ˜’

πŸ’©πŸ€―πŸ‘πŸ˜±πŸ˜…
πŸ€πŸ˜žπŸ‘ŒπŸ’‹β˜οΈ
😈🧐🀣😒πŸ₯Ά
🀬🀒😴🀭πŸ’ͺ

In Round 2, you must create reaction videos from iconic and popular movies, series, cartoons, TV shows, etc. (examples) All reaction videos must meet the technical requirements below.

Technical requirements:

1. Format: MP4, no sound.

2. Aspect ratio: anything between 1:1 – 4:3 (βœ… good examples).

- GIFs must not include stripes that make a widescreen video fit in the required format (bad example).
- Sides must not be squished to fit the aspect ratio (bad example).

3. Max. duration: 5 seconds.

4. Image quality. Aim for top video quality (βœ… good examples, ❌ bad examples).

- No grainy videos with noticeable pixelation, etc.
- No blurry, overexposed videos, etc.
- Cut content carefully: GIFs must not jitter (animation too short) or jump (animation contains irrelevant frames).

5. Max. size: 300 KB. Aim for the smallest size necessary to maintain the level of quality described above (likely around 70-300KB).

6. On-screen text is not required. If you use on-screen text, you must use consistent fonts on all GIFs in your submission. Please keep your source files, because we may ask you to edit the text if your submission wins a prize.

7. Expressiveness and relevance to emoji. All GIFs must be relevant to their chosen emoji and express the emotion clearly. (If you're not sure whether the video shows πŸ˜‘,😑,πŸ™„ or 😳 – it's probably not a very good fragment).

We will explain how to submit your reaction videos later, stay tuned to @contest.

Reaction videos created in this contest will be watermarked with links to the public channels of their creators – and potentially suggested to Telegram users.

Good luck!

GIF Contest, Round 2: Submission FAQ

Submissions for Round 2 of the GIF Π‘ontest are open until November 8 November 9, 23:59 (Dubai time).

===
Warning: If you have uploaded any gifs before the announcement on Nov 7, they are not participating in the contest (unless the bot says they are).
===

Instructions:
https://contest.com/docs/gif-contest-submission

If you have any questions, please check the FAQ.

A few extra tips, in case you're having any issues:

1. Prepare your videos for publication in an external video editor (it is not recommended to use the built-in Telegram media editor for this purpose).
- Aspect ratio: between 1:1 and 4:3
- No audio track! (especially important for uploading via desktop apps)
- Suggested width: 380, 640 or 848
- Suggested height: a multiple of 16 (but remember to use the correct aspect ratio!)

(Other widths/heights may also work
– but if you run into problems, try the suggested ones.)

2. Once you've prepared your videos for publication, use an official app to send them to your channel.
- Send as a video (not file).
- If you use a mobile app, set the maximum quality.
- If you use iOS, disable audio before sending (tap on the speaker icon) – even if you removed the soundtrack when preparing the video for publication.
- If you use Android, don't disable audio – instead remove the soundtrack when preparing video for publication.

3. If @ContestBot tells you your videos were not accepted, you can tap the "Show videos with issues" button to get details on each problematic video.

4. If the bot tells you you haven't submitted any videos, see number 1 in this messageπŸ‘†.

5. Note on audio tracks:

If @ContestBot doesn’t recognize the videos, make sure that you have disabled the soundtrack completely before uploading. Your video file must have no audio channels for desktop apps to recognize them properly.

There are many ways of disabling the audio track in a video. If you’re having difficulties, we suggest googling for a solution that works best for you.

6. Note on size:

If you uploaded your videos more than a few hours ago and @ContestBot says their size is too large, try re-uploading them again.

If you tried again and it's still not working, try saving them with the standard H.264 preset: preset=medium, crf=23 β€” and re-upload again.

This should also help if your video gets stuck at 100% during uploading to public channels with the correct caption.
Given that some participants in the Second Round of the GIF Contest encountered issues with uploading their reaction videos and some uploaded them too early to be accepted, we've decided to extend submissions by one more day.

The new deadline is November 9, 23:59 (Dubai time).

If you are having any issues, please see this message for details.
GIF Contest, Round 2: Submissions

Everybody is welcome to view the submissions using GIF search in any Telegram app:
- Open the GIF panel (a tab in the sticker panel)

- You can refine the search by adding one emoji after the hashtag.

Have fun while our judges evaluate the results!
