🇪🇺🇷🇺 Politico: Eight European Union countries are demanding that the EU's diplomatic arm develop a new sanctions tool against Russia following the death of Alexei Navalny, according to a letter seen by Politico.

Currently, sanctions against Russian organisations operate under two strands of legal architecture. Both were adopted in 2014. A coalition of eight countries hopes to create a mechanism specifically targeting those involved in Russia's internal repression, of which Navalny was the latest high-profile victim.

Such a regime "would provide a solid legal basis for listing individuals from Russia's repressive state apparatus, including those involved in politically motivated decisions against representatives of civil society and democratic opposition, and their subsequent detention, such as those responsible in the judiciary," the letter's authors said.

The second idea put forward by the eight EU ministers is new lists of individuals and entities involved in Russian repression as part of the EU's relatively new global human rights sanctions regime. Presumably, this would work much faster than any "Navalny law", as the latter would require full-scale drafting and agreement by the European Parliament, which is now in pre-election mode.

🇮🇱🇵🇸 The IDF released footage of allegedly hundreds of Gaza Strip residents surrounding, and allegedly looting, aid trucks. Dozens of people were killed as a result of the crush.

Gaza authorities say that more than 100 people have died, but not because of the dwaqa, but because of Israeli shelling. Some Israeli media write that the Israeli army did open fire.

The Ukrainian military has given details about the operation of the 73rd Maritime Centre for Special Operations on the Tendrovskaya Spit, which ended in the death of the special forces.

"There have been landings on this spit more than once. Many groups successfully fulfilled the tasks. But the enemy also, obviously, drew conclusions. You can't go off on the same pattern five times. But for some reason the centre command did not think so, and sent the group again. The centre command knew that the enemy had intercepted information about the landing, but made no decisions to postpone the operation or change the operation plan. And for that, too great a price was paid. The dead and missing are somewhat more numerous than the photos that the Russians have published".

Ukrainian Special Forces losses totalled sergeants and officers.

According to the investigation, the cleric insulted religious feelings of believers of other confessions during his sermons and in videos on his social media pages.

We shall remind you that a week ago, the SBU handed a fourth suspicion to Metropolitan Theodosiy of the Cherkasy diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church for statements about the seizure of the church.

"A frightening warning". World media reacted to Putin's speech

Putin's address to the Federal Assembly has attracted the attention of journalists from around the world. They wrote that the Russian president issued a "frightening warning" and accused him of intending to "strike a blow" against the West.

The Daily Mail, Daily Express and Handelsblatt have picked up on the hysteria over the matter. Their articles claim that Putin is "threatening the West with nuclear weapons," although the Russian leader has said nothing of the sort.

But now sending Western troops to Ukraine doesn't seem like a good idea at all.
