ARE YOU BUTT DIALING 911?
What is called disease is, from the Germanic Healing Knowledge perspective, the body's deliberate and intentional response to a person's experience (of themselves as an organism and of the environment in which the organism exists.)
Errors or less than ideal communication can occur here, but the error is never at the level of the body's interpretation of our experience.
Our body doesn't "mishear" our experience and do the wrong thing; it always interprets our experience appropriately based on ancient biological programs.
It is possible, however, for our complicated brains to communicate an experience to our body that elicits a response we don't like.
The body doesn't mishear, but we misspeak through the perception and experiences we create.
A great rule is "The meaning of any communication is the response that it gets."
Our perception, our experience, and our "Self-Concept" is our communication to our body.
The physical condition of our body, the processes that are occurring, and any symptoms that are present, are the body's response to that communication.
The body is attempting to be maximally helpful based upon the communication we are providing it.
The trouble is that when we aren't conscious of what we are communicating, often because we aren't even conscious THAT we are communicating, it becomes possible for us to communicate things and to communicate in ways that get responses that we don't want.
Then, because we don't realize that our body's symptoms are ultimately a part of the body's well-intentioned response to our unconscious communication, we wonder why on earth our body is doing what it's doing.
It's almost like "butt dialing" 911 with your cellphone.
You have no idea that you're calling 911, but that doesn't change the fact that you are.
911 doesn't know WHY you're calling them, they just know THAT you're calling them.
Is it an error for 911 to show up to wherever you are?
In fact, there is no reason, no real need, for them to be there, and yet their showing up makes perfect sense based on a communication you provided them without even realizing it.
There's a very real sense in which, when we allow our minds to operate unconsciously and unintentionally, and we allow our experience to be dictated by whatever happens to be going on around us, we are placing ourselves in the position of experientially "butt dialing" our body's ancient programs of adaption.
As we have evolved a species, the "keys" on the phone have gotten more and more sensitive, and now the world in which we live is providing more stimulation than ever.
At the risk of stretching this analogy to the rupture point, having the powerful brains we have and living in the world we live without having a high degree of conscious control over our experience is like having an extremely sensitive phone in your back pocket and you're wearing really tight pants or something; prime butt dialing scenario and who knows who you're calling!
For me, conscious awareness (the kind we help people develop in our courses and coaching) is kind of like turning the sound on your phone so you can hear the dialing as it's occurring.
Buttons still get pressed, especially in the beginning, but you start hearing the dialing as it happens, you realize you aren't intending to "call" your body in this way, and you switch off the experience before the call goes through.
Non-GHK health approaches, to me, are like a manipulative relationship counselor who coaches one member of the relationship (you) to coerce and trick and force the other member of the relationship (your body) into doing what you want.
This counselor presupposes that your partner (your body) is inherently defective (stupid) or out to get you (evil) or that they are possessed by a demon (cancer, say), and then they convince you that since this is true you're entitled to do all kinds of nasty stuff to your partner in order to make them do what you want.

Of course, this isn't a sustainable way to get want you want from your partner, and even if you force them to comply with you in the short term (drugs, surgery, etc), in the long run the damage done to them (and to the relationship itself) is rarely worth the short-term benefits.
GHK, in contrast, is like a communication coach that understands both you and your body, gets where you're both coming from, and works to reestablish a kind of rapport between the two.
There is an understanding in this approach that neither you nor your body are defective or bad, and that all kinds of terrible misunderstandings can occur as a result of simple, easy to fix breakdowns in communication.
Your body really is your first and primary "life partner", and this without exception is a true "till death do you part" kind of arrangement.
Once the two of you are speaking the same language, not only will any present misunderstandings be cleared up, but you'll enter into a lifelong love affair that is immeasurably enriched by the processes of learning to come together again.
